Seeing as it's Friday 13th and 45 years to the day that Black Sabbath unleashed their debut on the world, which was the high point from that album?

Man, what a total kick-ass album start to finish. My favourite, well, all tracks are marvellous, maybe Evil Woman.......or Warning (funnily enough, their covers) - The Wizard then. Just an all-round phenomenal release.

The title track is the most stunning piece of heavy metal music ever created, but I'll go with the Wizard for the purposes of this poll.

Nice album indeed for me too, still don't know Warning and Sleeping Village, enjoy pretty much Behind The Wall Of Sleep. I would vote as well for NIB, but I easily prefer the version of NIB sung by Dio in the Live Evil show, outstanding live album btw.

I'm not sure I know where Sleeping Village ends and Warning begins, but I'm guessing Sleeping Village is the acoustic thing and Warning is the electric song with vocals and the endless guitar solo. I'm going with Warning for the vocal section - that's a great song. I'm less thrilled about the solo but it's still good I suppose.

I really wanted to vote for N.I.B. because there's no votes for it. But my heart only goes for the title track.

There had never been such a thrilling use of the dissonant tritone in rock music prior to the Sabs title track on their debut.

Suppose I'd have to go for the title track - the definitive heavy metal song. Love the second half of it especially, but they're all great songs.

Title-track for me too. As opening tracks go, it's hard to find something with the same punch and ground-breaking potential.

Title track for me too. What a way to begin their career. Though I do like NIB a lot too... but I easily prefer the live versions of it over the studio one.

^ Same here in regards to "N.I.B.". I like the version they did in the Paris concert (as shown on Past Lives), where the song is heavier and Ozzy's singing doesn't sound as stiff.
I could make a similar case with "Behind The Wall Of Sleep", also with the Past Lives album. The song has much more punch and I like the guitar feedback that Iommi peppers the song with.

The title cut defined a whole new genre of doom metal, but as far as songs I prefer NIB...

I've always been a sucker for the harmonica from "The Wizard". The album isn't bad but it does tail off into the blues near the end. They managed to Sabbathise that genre more successfully on the records that came after it. And because this isn't the Black Sabbath Appreciation Thread it would be wrong to say my favourite Sabbath albums are "Vol.4" and even "Never Say Die". "13" was a better comeback album than TER

N.I.B., closely followed by Sleeping Village/Warning. The whole album is fantastic, though they got better on the ones that came after, at least up to Sabotage.

Ah, a trick question. The whole album oozes atmosphere. The sinister opening has a new development with Sleeping Village / Warning. I voted for Village but there are no low points on this record. For the same record, I do like the guitar solo which has so many different aspects as the band goes in and out of the arrangement. First class all the way.

Title track. The definitive heavy metal song of all time. If you can listen to this once and not become a fan then you are scientifically devoid of metal.
