Freshman year of college for me.  I had just left my 7am psychology class and was on my way to take a shower (no way was I going to get up any earlier than I had to for psychology).  I saw Phil Lee (we had two people named Phil Lee on our hall, one was a tall skinny white Russian guy, this one was a short Pacific Islander fellow).  He had this stunned look on his face, like he'd been struck by a loved one.

Without looking at me, he said, "They knocked down the towers."

Phil Lee (both of them) spoke English well enough, but I couldn't make out what he was trying to tell me.  I took my shower, pondering what he could mean, and then ventured downstairs where everyone was watching the TV, and then I knew what he meant.

I don't remember the days that immediately followed.
