Nice one!

BBC Arts & entertainment

They've still got it. The Final Frontier is the bands 4th number one album in the UK.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Once again, a classic artist comes up and overpowers the pitiful piffle that corporate weasels sell as "music." Up the Irons and say "NO!" to post-89 nobodies.

I´m not impressed with it. I find it a bit unfocused, formulatic and boring. Maybe with a few more spins I´ll change my mind, but they don´t really grab you like they did on their previous albums.

I feel the same. I love Matter Of Life And Death which was fresh and incorporated new influences. The lastest seems to be going backwards with bits that sound like Powerslave (their peak imo).Anyway I need to give it a few more listens before I write it offTongue

They also top the French charts. With a good album? I don't know, I've not listened to it (I've still to listen to the free mp3 available on their website that I downloaded 15 days ago!!!)

But I think the artwork is terrible. Dead I don't understand what's happening between Iron Maiden and the gentle art of record covers, but I think the quality of their artwork had lowered since The X-Factor.

any further comments on the album?

I too find the cover quite poor. Overall, a decent album with highs and lows (as all previous post-2000 Maiden albums).
Top three tracks for me: Coming home (what an opening riff), The Alchemist (top class twin guitar etc) and Isle of Avalon (7th son-alike)

I am quite dissapointed by the opening and closing tracks though...

I'm not surprised...its a great album, many of songs are done very well. Seems as though they are trying out some new ground and most of it works. A few weak songs...but the strong ones more than make up for any weakness....Satellite 15 would have been better if that preceded a more intense, proggier type epic. For sure El Dorado is a great song done live, I enjoyed it very much.
Isle of Avalon is sure to be a live favorite also.

It's a really good album, but I'm not quite sure how good compared to the other new era albums. Second or third best, with BNW being my favourite and DoD the least favourite, but still good. When the Wild Wind Blows is my favourite track hands down at the moment.

Great album, didn't expect it to be as good.
Iron Maiden are like wine, they get better with age...

Not quite as good as my favorites, but I still absolutely love it. A solid 4 star rating IMO. Smile

It's odd because I saw this cover here on the Wikipedia article for The Final Frontier for about a day then it good deleted. Was better than the cover used by a long shot. Brave New World cover is one of my favorite.

I think it's quite good, however some of the riffs aren't as instantly memorable as their 80s material, maybe because they don't wish to be revising basically every other hard rock/metal/prog band that has come and gone since then. Also, the song lengths are more reminiscent of their post-reunion work.

My mum heard Mother Of Mercy played on the radio though and was surprised at the melody the song carried, as she believes Maiden are awful :)

Yeah, this cover (while not being very original) is really better than the actual one.

I love the record. I made sure to buy it the first day it was released because Bruce Dickenson told me too from the stage while they played here in August. In fact, he insisted on it!! I like it less than BNW/AMoLaD/DoD but I still think it's awesome. Talisman slays...... El Dorado is amazing.... actually I like it as much as the last 3 albums and I like those a whole lot.......
