Topic: Jeff Beck Pechanga Casino Southern California Posted: April 20 2010 at 00:50 |
Right on the heals of the TA show in Downey was this show in Temecula. Jeff Beck is simply incredible. He had an incredible band and the set list was a perfect mix of Rock, Blues, Funk and Jazz:
Eternity's Breath Stratus Led Boots Hammerhead Mna Na Eireann People Get Ready Rollin & Tumblin Never Alone Big Block Over the Rainbow Blast Angels Dirty Mind Brush With The Blues Higher A Day In The Life
Encore: How High Nessun Dorma
His lyrical style of playing is just so different and emotional from that of other guitarists. He encored with an opera piece! The energy he has well into his 60's is also noteworthy. This is not a guy going through the motions. Go see this tour!
Here was his band:
Narada Michael Walden on drums, Rhonda Smith on bass and Jason Rebello on keyboards.

I went to this show as well. Jeff Beck is a world class act. His band current band is definately a talented bunch, but I still think the band he recently left behind was a bit better. Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, keyboardist Jason Rebello may be a better match than what I saw at Pechanga. I'm not saying the new guys are bad, just maybe not quite as polished at this point. This was only the 3rd show of the tour as well. I suppose as the tour goes on, things will tighten up a bit. Jeff of course was in top form. I heard that at the Nokia show he had an orchestra with him. I wished I would have went to see that over Pechanga, but you can't beat the seating at pechanga. Not too many bad seats there. My only other complaint about the show was that it seemed short. He was off the stage in just over an hour. With encore, the show was barely 90 minutes. I saw him a few years back at Pala Casino and i'm sure the show was at least 2 hours then. Prior to that I saw Jeff with Terry Bozzio on drums touring Jeff Beck Guitar shop sharing the bill with Stevie Ray Vaugn. That was a show that i'm Glad I didn't miss. Despite my few small critiques, I still highly suggest seeing this legend. He is just amazing.
