I'm really sorry if this topic has already been discussed here before...

OK, there's no doubt PA is the best prog rock website around but i ve seen a flaw on it lately, is not a major flaw but I think you will agree with me.

There's this website, rateyourmusic.com, they have all the genres of music around and, of course, their Prog Rock section surely don't match the Prog Archives one. But, they do have an advantage, they list the genres per album, not per band (EX: KC-ITCOKC= SYMPH. KC-LTIA=Eclectic) they also keep a genre vote section so the mebers can argue which one(s) apply better to the sound. PA has "created" great genre definitions, but, sadly, they are usually not being used in their most perfect way since it's very common for a band to change their music during their career. There's also some ba nds(albums) which are just categorized ina wrong way, mostly because it had only one person's genre opinion. The genre vote section would easily end up with all those "mistakes".

I know how hard it's to make such a drastic change, but, this is the ultimate prog rock resource and it needs to be as good as all the other websites around.

Hope that someone agrees with me.

Thanks.

You have no idea of how often this has been discussed... The idea has many supporters, but it seems it would be too difficult to implement. Perhaps someone else will be able to explain to you exactly why.

I rather like how things are here.  If I preferred the other method, I would utilize rateyourmusic or progfreak.com (the latter is quite detailed and has a great tagging system in place).

I'd rather read a few reviews than rely on labels anyway.

It is a good idea. It will probably be implemented shortly before the heat death of the universe. :P

I'd like to see album tagging (multi-tagging) as an addition while keeping the bands/artists in their respective categories.  Perhaps we could have the option for members to submit album tags and there would be a section for that info on the album page.  I would really love to be able to search for albums by filling in boxes in preferential order: for instance, if I'm looking for an album that crosses (has been tagged) jazz-rock, avant, krautrock, space, and folk (could be an ordered system in terms of prominence given). The search would come up with closest matches according to what tags have been given based on what "tags" one inputs (and according to order).  I think such a thing could be a useful research tool and a fun feature.
