Wow. I saw Magma for the first in my life yesterday at the "Alhambra" in Paris.
It's been a really amazing experience. The average audience age was about 40/45 years old, I was part of the youngest with 28. Moreover there were seats ! Great.
Thanks to that combination (old guys + seats), the music experience was per-fect : every details were earable.
The show consisted of, for about 2/3, the new album which i didn't listen even once : these new compositions are really strong. There was even a quite poppy one (sorry don't know the name) I enjoyed very much.
Also, incredible bass guitar sound, a lot of vibraphone on all the tracks.

Really nothing bad to say about this concert.

Amazing to ear that after 40 years a band is still at its top or so near (Crimso is also in this case).

If you can see them, just go !! by chance I'll be able to catch them a 2nd time on february and maybe a third in june. I'm such a lucky guy. Smile

I've also been to one of the shows at L'Alhambra. It was amazing indeed. Would our forum members wonder if it's worth saving for a trip to France with Magma concert included, I can answer with a strong YES - it's totally worth it. It's a once in a lifetime experience.

So ! Just saw them yesterday in St Brice sous Forêt (20km from Paris, France), a few weeks after seeing them in Paris. Quite the same set, except that this time I knew E-Ré from beginning to end. It was then for me a different gig.

The band opened with two songs that, as far as I know, is new material. While different from E-Ré, these works share the same vocal approach, the same incredible tension and same amazing bass riffs. The thing about the druming was that during these two 8min (approx, I haven't looked at my watch) songs, I can assure Christian did not hit his toms and snare drum more than... let's say 5 times : it was only a cymbal job and still you could feel a real progression in volume and tension, only with cymbals. Man, myself being a drummer I can imagine the temptation to hit this f***ing snare drum!!! I would not say that Vander inspires me that much(I'm more found of Bruford for example) but it was really, really interesting to watch his playing.
Then, they played the whole E-Ré album. Amazing of course, which some more place for solos and impros.
As an encore they played "Kobaïa" : a guitar centered version, and obvisously without any wind instruments. I actually enjoyed better this version since the band first period is not the one I prefered.

It was my last year's dream going there, in france to see Magma in december.
But i'm from italy and noone wanted to accompain me... not that it was a problem, but my family was a little contrary in letting me go in france alone... too bad.
I  hope they will do again this soon, and i will try any way to partecipate!
