Trying to open an assignment on Microsoft Word, a small message keeps popping up saying 'There is not enough memory or disk space to run Word'. What does this mean? And how can I get around it? (Need this for tomorrow, so any help would be much appreciated).

The best way to investigate such issues is to put the phrase into a search engine such as Google. You'll usually find lots of people who have been there before. In this case, it looks like i might not simply be a lack of memory. Try this answer for example: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839367

I'm thinking your computer is just messing with you.  Do you have any more info such as which operating system and version of Word you are using?  I've been using Word 97 for quite a while on various computers and that's a new one for me.  But if I can offer any useful help, I'll be glad to...

Do keep in mind that Microsoft is evil, but it is the evil I've been dealing with for more than a few years.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

If WORD has already worked before then first check if there is enough disk space ...

When asking questions like this you should always include details about your Operating System and the version of the software type eg Word 2000, and the amount of free disc space and installed memory you have.

This sounds very much like the old chestnut relating to the re-naming of global templates in Word and the solution should be easily found via Google as Easy Livin says.

Speaking of OO, I don't think it would address his particular problem.  I started a thread on it but I do believe it sunk like a rock. LOL

I have been using Word, Excel, and Access (97 versions) at work for about 10 years.  I've started to experiment with OO a little though.  Haven't figured out how to make it do all the things I've been able to make MeSs Office do but it does have promise.
