I got to listen to Peter Hammill sing 'Man-Erg' tonight...I can now die a happy man!!!Clap

Oh and "Sleepwalkers"...Embarrassed
 
...and "Childlike Faith in Childhood's End"...Wink
 
Seeing VdGG together again is fantastic (even as a trio without any sax). I feel privileged to have caught them tonight in Montreal's Place des Arts (Theatre Maisonneuve). The 1500-2000 (estimated) crowd were loud, appreciative and downright worshipful of the Prog legends they were witnessing banging out old classics and new material alike. 3 Standing Ovations on the night!
 
Pick up their latest (2008) "Trisector", still solid stuff, some of which made their way intot the setlist tonight "Interference Patterns" and "Over The Hill".
 
Watching Peter sing is always a surreal experience. I managed to see him solo in November and am always amazed at his vocals. How can such anger/terror/passion/softness/power come from such a skinny lanky man?
 
Catch them live if you can, not to be missed!

Concert was great but wayyyyy to short at barely 75 minutes long!Ouch
 
I would have taken another 30 minutes of that greatness....

I totally agree. It was exquisite to see them. Even if I would have wanted more of them, I feel very privileged to have seem them once in my life.

Liked to the hear the organ growling.

Were satisfied you with Banton play to replace Mr. Jackson?

Well I guess you guys are refering to the show at the Montréal Gangsta International Gangsta Festival. I`m not going to knock VDGG or the show they put on last night. I was a bit sceptical going to this thing and held off for quite some time before breaking down and buying a couple of tickets. If you read the article and partial intreview with Peter Hammill in the Montréal Gangsta Gazette yesterday ( you can read the whole thing at the Gangsta Gazette`s website it revealed  that all three remaining members had their hearts set in the right place when they decided to reform after a considerable amount of soul searching a few years back. Obviously there were a few tracks that they decided that they couldn`t play without the woodwind power of David Jackson.

The problem was that they were playing in the wrong place & wrong event. The Montréal Gangsta Jazz Gangsta Festival. The more commercial this goddam thing gets the less jazzy it becomes. What I would have prefered to see was a VDGG concert at Théatre St. Denis in October put on by an independant promoter who actually cares about music. Now, I don`t mind seeing a few bands included who are outside the realm of jazz, The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland started doing this years ago. But here in Gangstaland it has gotten so out of control that some older people who I know ( not to mention myself  ) have just become so confused over how distorted the whole concept of a jazz festival has become. The gangsta festival is run by a bunch of money thirsty gangstas who pack their own personal pockets with any money this thing is able to generate ( they`l be lucky to break even this year). They even had to reluctantly ( and this was implied during the press anouncement ) get another sponsor in the form of The Toronto Dominion Bank ( an English institution ) for next year because of the situation withe present sposor, GM. These gangstas who run the jazz festival are actually separitists who want to destroy Canada .This has been going on in Montréal for years not only with the music scene but everywhere and believe me there many of us here in Montréal both English, French and otherwise who are goddam sick and tired of being sick and tired of this nonsense. I`ll stop here because I think I`ve made my point.

I enjoyed the VDGG show immensly and I`m glad I didn`t let a bunch of money thirsty clowns with misplaced ideals stand in my way of seeing one of the few bands still going from the glory years of progressive rock who still reflect the spirit of that era.

I got myself the chills seeing them at the 3rd row... the 4 (only) old songs perfomed make me want more... i saw hammill already 4 times and once with violin and bass player in Mtl... he is so generous... 1h15mins for VdGG was bad... i thought it was a joke when they left after Man-Erg  :-)
we were the best crowd with the less songs played... BRAVO VdGG better than expected without Jaxononsax... wish they come back here with a full set...

Damn jazz Fest... Ornette Coleman was playing after them... maybe more important  :-(

That's sadly true. But hey, as you said the show was AMAZING! Hum, but Hammill's suit was weird LOL
The best moment in my opinion was either Man-Erg or Childlike Faith....
