Caught the Stick Men show last night - Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto & Michael Bernier. Small venue, the Center for Arts in Natick, Massachusetts (Tony apparently grew up nearby in Brookline, MA, which I didn't know until last night). Seating capacity of 290 - practically a full house. I was only a few rows back, probably a dozen feet from Tony. Really nice, intimate setting.
Since I went as a KC fan (although I've seen Levin on stage with other bands over the years), I wasn't familiar with the Stick Men songs. Granted, there was some improv, and a piece or two that were still works in progress. What I caught... (sorry for the blanks)
Welcome
Sasquatch
(two others)
Red
Speedbump
- intermission -
(others, titles unknown)
Indiscipline
- encore -
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum cover
Elephant Talk
Red and Speedbump were a great finish to the first half. Indiscipline, though, was the real highlight - easily the best version of the song I've heard. Bernier took the mic for this and was perfect.
Great fun. Tony Levin is just so amiable...
VDGG and Stick Men two nights apart - suffice it to say, this was a great week!
