I just had a look at the top 2009 list:

http://www.progarchives.com/top-prog-albums.asp?syears=2009#list

The odd thing is: Where is Mastodon - Crack the Skye? It's a studio album from 2009 and has an average rating of 3.94 from 66 ratings ...

Maybe only albums with an rating of at least 4.0 are displayed? It's still a bug then, because in the form at the top it says "0" in the input for minimum average rating.

The problem is that the way the list is currently set up allows any album with just one rating in. Set a minimum of five ratings, perhaps, and we'll see some of the more fairly rated ones in. The bottom limit used to be 25 ratings, which is pretty steep early on, but it's almost to the point where that is merited again, I think.

^ the ranking algorithm should take care of that problem ... I think that the default settings should not exclude any rated album from the list. If users want to do that, they still can by tweaking the parameters.

The observation is that MASTODON "Crack the Skye" is below the 2009 average ratings of albums so far. It seems that the 2009 albums average ratings is 4.09 (quite high, but at PA we are used to this, new release are all masterpieces ;-)

By default, I only show the albums in the query with an average rating over that AVERAGE OF AVERAGE

I will test drive the tool more to better understand how to get more results without affecting the validity of results for the default query

^ that's fine, but in that case you should display that information somewhere on the page, otherwise visitors won't understand why the album isn't listed. Especially when there is an option to hide albums below a certain average, and the option is set to 0. Smile

The 2009 list only shows 44 albums - surely a top 100 should show 100 entries, even if some of them are below the average.
What?
