OK, I know this guy isn't really a serious artist. His music is essentially about going out to the bars or sailing on boats; but, still something about this guy's music makes me smile...and this time of year when we break out of winter and slink slowly into spring and summer I tend to break his music out.

It's a beautiful day here in midwest America. Sun is shining and I put on one of his discs while out and about and really enjoyed it. Music is designed to take you away....though not to the same destination. Prog takes me somewhere else, but Buffett always has me hoisting my sails and traveling through the Caribbean. I've been listening to him for well over 25 years now and have even seen him a couple of times. I'd love to live the life of one of his characters and disappear to an island called Margaritaville.

Any closet Parrotheads out there?

E

ps. I've been following his guitarist for about 22 or 23 years now. Peter Mayer, his brother Jim and drummer Roger Guth (all from St. Louis) had a band called PM back in the 80's and had a minor hit with "Piece Of Paradise" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmO_YVKnjeY). It was produced by Elliot Scheiner, who was working with Buffett at the same time and suggested PM to be in his band...where they've been ever since. Peter's made several solo albums and is an amazing talent. I've seen him live a couple of times and even met him and he's such a great guy. Much like a lot of our prog bands, he's deserved so much more success than he's gotten.
