On the metal-rules.com boards, where I also post, this is apparently a bit of a "running gag" because on that forum there's been a backlash against Painkiller and a lot of people going "hey, Turbo isn't that bad" but (at least that's what I'm told) that hasn't happened elsewhere in the metal fan community except for a handful of negative-to-lukewarm Painkiller reviews on metal-archives.com in recent years. I don't discuss either album very much with other metalheads in real life so I can't really tell.

I'll have to choose Painkiller here. The title track alone is way better than anything on Turbo, and there are a few other really great tracks on it (but also some rather repetetive and boring ones.) The album is really sparkling with energy, something Turbo mostly lacks completely.

But that said, Turbo isn't that bad. Tracks like 'Turbo', 'Locked In', 'Out in the Cold' are quite good.

(Of course neither of those albums can compete with their 70s and a little more proggy stuff like Sad Wings or Stained Class)

I remember that, when Turbo came out in 1986, it was nothing short of a HUGE disappointment. Not that it's bad - it just doesn't sound like JP at all.

Normally I don't vote when I haven't heard the other opponent, but Painkiller puts all Priest material I've heard so badly in shame that there's no chance on earth that Turbo could ever beat it. Heavy Metal at its finest.

Painkiller is a swift kick in the backside, while Turbo is incredibly fun party rock. Depends what you're looking for at the moment, I suppose.

That's how I see it too. Apples and oranges...
