As far as I know DGM has requested that all videos of KK be removed from youtube & PA. Anyone have the lowdown? I would immagine the reason lies with Bob. If it does, I can`t really blame the man for not wanting his work being presented alongside some of the crap that shows up on that site ( youtube not PA ). Rather insulting to have a King Crimson video alongside a crack spider video. I saw that opce seriously!  Besides allowing copyrighted material from DVDs I find that youtube has just become  wasteland full of amatuerish garbage that is in a way killing and undermining art & culture in general. Just read some of the assinine comments. I commend Mr. Fripp if it was indeed him that initiated the removal of the videos.

Here is the "official" PA statement from March this year: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=47091

Reader's of Robert Fripp's entertaining Blog will know of his dislike for unsolicited use of his music. I do not believe he had the video's removed from YouTube because of their association with lower forms of art.
What?

I was away on business back when that thread appeared. I only noticed the absence of the videos just last week., I`ll just add my brief two cents here. I  was just making a general comment about the trash that`s to be found on youtube. I disagree with the removal of everything Crimson ( although I guess they didn`t have a problem with the bio I wrote Shocked ). I spoke with a lawyer friend about this and he explained to me  in "lawyereese" that some sort of legal action must have been  threatened aginst anyone who used this copyrighted material without permission. No exceptions because if, say progarchives was allowed carte blanche by DGM to post anything from the band without prior permission such as the case of the videos that are sourced from youtube, then it could complicate other legal proceedings being taken against other parties whether it be web related or otherwise. So everyone loses out. I don`t think we should take it personally but at the same time, given the prominence of this site worlwide, you would think that DGM could provide some streaming and videos directly to PA for exclusive use on this site only. It seems to me that they`re just covering their ass. I don`t think it has anything to do with the internet either quite really. Those who are 103 years old such as myself will remember back in the seventies when Led Zeppelin`s manager Peter Grant would walk into record shops and confiscate bootlegs.

Okay I get the point about uncompensated use of copyrighted materials but where can I find videos of 70s era KC? I've been looking through the Netfix selection and everything is from the 80s onward.........

Lower forms of art? How completely pretentious.

Also, I think that while Fripp is being an asswipe over all this, its still his music, so I can't say I'd want people taking my music either. However, I don't think there's anything wrong with having concert videos on youtube or floating around on the net, seeing as how I'm sure a lot of those are audience recordings.

Robert is a very kind individual when it comes to use of his and KC material IF you follow the proper channels.  My own personal dealings with him in this regard were very positive.  It's not a matter of Robert trying to get rich on the stuff, it seemed to me he just really wanted to be asked first, and then have the right to decide if he approved of the use, before saying yes or no.  Pretty basic stuff.  Our financial arrangements were very open-ended (no contracts, just an email hand-shake) and were more than fair to me.  I'm pretty certain this decision wasn't about money.

I do think that Robert is still a little butt sore from what happened with EG Records. Like you said he is a nice man. I got to talk to him at length when he played StL last. Respect him and he will respect you.
