I realize they have probably already been rejected but please reconsider prog metal band Elegy to be added for inclusion on this site mainly for their release "manifestations of fear" I was absolutely stunned to find they were not here on the site when I looked them up. Not my favorite band but really they should be here just to cement the claim that this is prog archives after all with some of the latest "iffy" inclusions its probably time to save face .   Tongue

Yeah, just to confirm, Elegy was rejected before by the Prog Metal team (from the progfreak chart) with two votes. Don't know how long ago that was or how much music they listened to.

Do the prog metal team feel that Prog related would be an appropriate home for them?

Hmmm, as long as Ian Parry has been accepted by the prog metal team (according to the progfreak charts), with his brand of melodic power metal, I am a bit curious as to why this band was rejected ;-)

If I may cast my two penneth in here, I agree wholeheatedly with Windhawk on this one...I don't think you can really differentiate between Elegy & Ian Parry's Consortium in terms of progressiveness.. either they should both be included, both put in Prog Related, or both rejected....Smile

My personal feeling is that while they may be a borderline case, I would be happier to see them in PM than Prog-Related, which can become a bit of a general receptical for borderline cases which no-one is sure what to do with, if we aren't careful...Wink

right...I'll crawl back into my box now, and close the lid....Embarrassed

From what I´ve heard of Elegy ( not my favorite band either, but I do own a couple of albums) there are plenty of reasons why they should be included in the progressive metal catagory. I was also confused when I learned that they were not here. When bands like Section A and Royal Hunt are considered progressive I see no reason why Elegy shouldn´t be a part of PA and not in the prog-related catagory. They should be added to progressive metal if you ask me.

Yes they shoud be here, i have some albums  and i'm impressed by this band. This band has some fine musicians, like: the drumer from Adagio - Dirk Bruinenberg, famous Ian Perry on voice and from the album Forbidden fruit from 2000 is the excellent guitar player Patrick Rondat. So i'm voting to be here on progressive metal

Very interesting thoughts, fandango and windhawk!

And the Ian Parry vote was unanimously in favour with three votes, whereas the Elegy one was unanimously against with two votes.  My first thought was maybe it's because the Elegy vote came quite a bit earlier.  Parameters often expand over time considering what's acceptable and what's not as more artists are included that share similarities to other artists.  Melodic power metal would not have been as acceptable, methinks, for team inclusion before certain additions -- additionally, parameters can expand/ change when new team members come and older ones go (different people have different ideas of Prog).  Now, I don't know the date when Elegy was rejected and Parry was accepted, but I had expected that the Elegy was rejected a fair time before before Parry was evaluated (though both were additions to the progfreak database quite some time ago, so I don't know).  That said, those initial assumptions aside, looking closely at the charts, TP, T, and UI accepted Parry, and TP and T rejected Elegy, so the same people (plus/minus one) evaluated both.  Be interesting to hear from the evaluators on the merits of both (both would have been evaluated on their own perceived merits, I expect).  Sometimes it also depends on what material the evaluators are working with.

^^ thereby opening another whole can of 'genre debating' worms....Erik will be delighted...LOL

I think also that some metal bands can also subtlely change towards a slightly proggier direction during the course of their output, for a variety of reasons...Anubis Gate and Lanfear are two good examples of this happening, and I'm sure there are many others out there (although I'm not saying this is the case with Elegy).

this 'morphing' can also go undetected by a small team who have listened to earlier output, but may have so many new band suggestions winging their way, that they don't get time to reconsider...Ermm
