Only since I've met my wife have I really gotten into Christmas music. Every year I try to buy a new one, although I haven't found the right one yet.

My favorite Christmas disc is by a guy named Peter Mayer, who has been the guitarist for Jimmy Buffett for the past 20 years. Now, before you start envisioning calypso music or songs about getting drunk off egg nog, Peter Mayer is more from the Paul Simon meets Pat Metheny school. He came out with a Christmas disc about 8 years ago called Stars And Promises that has become a favorite in this household. The good part it's not a disc of old classics regurgitated, but mostly original compositions alongside a few standards. Can be sampled at CD Baby at http://cdbaby.com/cd/mayerxmas.

Another favorite of mine is ex-Doobie Brothers' singer Michael McDonald's In The Spirit. It's absolutely stunning! He released another one through Hallmark entitled Through The Many Winters that is good, but not as good as the other.

Do you guys have any particular favorites (And could we please keep this positive towards the Christmas season and not use this as a soapbox against it? You're more than welcome to start a thread of your own, but just not in this one)?

If you can somehow find a copy of the Harry Simeone Chorale's Little Drummer Boy album - in its original configuration - go for it.  (The CD reissues are sorely wanting, you may have to scour eBay for the original vinyl.)

I know it's an obvious choice, but Trans Siberian Orchestra freakin rocks.
Christmas carols and power metal.  Can life get any better?  I submit that it cannot!
