I'm a 36 year old prog fan who is relatively new to the forum. I was going to post a record review until I read the guidelines. It was suggested that other reviewers refrain from commenting on other reviews, even their purported accuracy. What this says is that anybody can write anything regardless of accuracy. Gatekeepers are needed in all forms of media. A newspaper can't report falsehoods. If it does, the writer should be called on it.

Here's a benign example: I was reading a review of an album released in 1977. As I'm sure many know, albums at that time generally ranged from 35 to 45 minutes in duration. Many reviewers commented that this was "too short". Now I realize that this is an opinion, not a factual inaccuracy. I felt compelled to respond that this was standard practice back then and I am of the opinion that any album that exceeds 50 minutes is overkill. (Double LP'S notwithstanding). I didn't say anything for fear of "offending".

Nobody wants to read "You're an idiot for thinking such and such" but one can be diplomatic in discussing differing viewpoints.  It seems that the guidelines do not allow this. Thanks.

True, but you can discuss reviews on the board: CLICK HERE for reviews discussion in the Help us Improve the Site forum.  Or if the review abuses the guidelines report it in this forum in the Reviews reporting thread.

@ Logan: thanks! Smile

@ staunchally: the guideline you mention was inserted to make people submit reviews to talk about the albums not to respond to other people.

Anyway, if you find any inaccuracy or mistake in another review you can discuss in the Reviews Discussion Topic or if you find something abusive you can report in Reviews Reporting Thread. Both links are displayed in Logan's post above.
