That album is PHENOMONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
What threw me is they are listed as Neo here.I didn't see anything Neo about "Night",but that is the only thing I have heard from them. |
It does have resemblance to Hogarth era Marillion though. Perhaps its not-so-neoproginess is the reason why I enjoyed it in the first place.

Gazpacho are not Neo, but where to put them in?

Get something by Alamaailman Vasarat. That'll certainly scare the wife off and hopefully impress you too. Their new album has just been released and apparently Greg's getting it in, so I think I may order it soon.

Alamaailman Vasarat are not Art Rock, Mike. That is a problem with a lot of RIO/Avant-Prog bands though, a lot of them can easily fit under Art Rock, which kind of annoys me.

I think he meant Gazpacho. I do think it shall appeal to most neo prog fans though.

First of all I want to add to the praise of this album, it is PHENOMONAL !!!!!!!
Especially with your taste (E-dub) this is really a must-listen. I'm SHURE you will be blown away by it (like I am...)
About the genre: Gazpacho made 3 albums and an EP before this one and they definitely fit the neo prog label. This album is different. I can still hear the influence of H-era Marillion, but there's also a link to post rock especially in the build-up to climaxes.
Furthermore there are some parts with a definite folk influence (the end of Upside Down comes to mind...). It's a concept album, everything hangs together thematically and also structurally. On another webside I put down the genre as:
"Dark/emotional melodic post neo prog" allthough there should be something of folk/world music as well...

To be the one who seeks so I may find .. (Metallica)

I've sampled some Gazpacho. I've heard nothing but rave reviews for the new one, so I should seriously consider getting it.
Took Friday off and awaiting the mailman to deliver The Puppet Show. Should get here today.

I listened to it again yesterday and it's my surprise of 2007! Really love that disc.
Shadow Circus is on it's way, too. Looking forward to hearing this one.

By all means, keep them there. Then I'll have an excuse to claim them as the one Neo band I like, and won't feel bad for spurning a whole genre.
I'd suggest Comets on Fire - Avatar, very energetic psych/prog.
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum's new album, In Glorious Times, is also quite awesome.
