Wacko What about if there was another category in the prog archives called 'Select Albums", this category could fit into just the prog albums of artists that wern't prog but released a couple of prog albums eg David Bowie's Berlin albums with Brian Eno or Miles Davis fusion etc. This would just have their select prog albums and nothing more, so it takes away the grey factor. Also their could be a link to the page in which genre their select albums fit, eg Fusion page could have a link to the Miles Davis page and vice versa, so fans of specific genres could find out other artist who released albums in the field. I hop you guys follow what I'm saying. Perhaps I should create a poll or something.SmileBig smileWink.

I don't think it will happen any soon, wouldn't that mean we would have to remove all the Genesis later era albums and things like that, that are quite overeviewed as well?

No because Genesis was a prog based band, I'm talking about artist of non-prog backrounds that dabbled in a couple of prog albums, also genesis never released an album without some prog elements even Invisible Touch had Dominoes. At the very least that album was prog-related. With bands like Genesis and Yes the pop sides of them was more of an exception than the norm. I'm talking about guys who made albums which had absolutely no prog elements and  then making a couple of prog albums and then going back to complete non-prog again.Wink

I think "a couple of prog albums by a non-prog artist/band" isn't really an interesting value of the Prog Archive.Mainly the interest is on the artists/bands that prevalent have prog compositions or prog significance...if it happens to have other than prog phases in their discography...that's a secondary aspect.

It seems to me that it's pretty well covered in Prog Related, and Proto. There are always going to be omissions. I have found that the forums do a good job of taking care of things that aren't listed.

Well I disagree with the above because prog related and proto only go so far, also for me its not the bands I'm into its the albums.

I agree with Cheesecakemouse.
We shpuld have a section for "one-off" diversions into Prog territory by otherwise totally non-prog bands.

Unfortunately Max doesnt agree, but I keep chipping away....

I'm with you on that issue - let's hope you'll manage in your chipping away...Wink I think that would make for a very interesting category, which would be an asset to the site. IMHO, of course.

It makes me think about the Beatles, IMO only White Album and Abbey Road are proto prog, no way is let it be or hard days night, I think theat select album category would suit the beatles as well, It seems to me to be a contradiction that Miles Davis can't be included here because of a large body of non prog work yet  most of the Beatles music is not prog either, at most they had 4 proto albums - Sgt Peeper to Abbey Road, and I think that is stretching the definition. So I think select albums the keyWink, It'll take all the greyness away from the website and stop some contradictions such as having the Beatles and not having Miles Davis from occuring.

If an artist released a "prog album", then he/she/they should be included in the archives.

Personally I would welcome a feature like the "diversions" at progressiveworld.net ... selected albums which are non prog (also non rock) and are added to the database on the request of single reviewers. But I doubt that it is feasible, given the current database design & layout of the progarchives.

It's something that Dick heath has been promoting for as long as I can remember on the forum. As Mike says though, the site policy is that one prog album is enough to warrant the inclusion of a band or artist on the site, so there shouldn't really be a need for a separate section as described.

In my opinion, Bowie has never made a prog album.
