The collab top albums lists only go back to 2005 albums that I have seen, which is also for the first year that I participated, so I am only planning on three more of these following this one. I would like to do the Awesome Prog yearly poll combined lists (my albums lists there go from 2024 to 1987 currently) but only a few have done many years. Still, interesting to me to see what is there and what albums we have in common. It gives some overview of tastes. I do want to do one topic specifically to list all of our yearly charts there over here although Mike has something similar for which I will search. But I want one that is just for lists, commenting on choices, and comparing lists. Actually, I made a topic where I will share mine from there already. I am one for duplicating entries. Lost so much data, stories, essays, poems, film reviews, two novellas, a screenplay and a play because I did not back them up well and papers were thrown out. Maybe not worth saving, none did I think very good, but many, many hundreds of hours put into those things.

Standard spiel alert:

This poll comes in three sections and an "other" (see details on when to use), and multiple voting is not enabled. One can list all of ones favourites anyway and I do no treat such polls as contests.

The first eight are taken from the unfiltered, except by year, Prog Archives Top Album Chart for [insert year here, which in this case is *checks calendar* 2008]. The second eight is taken from the top twelve listed albums of the 2008 Collab Album of the Year topic. I don't wish to duplicate albums across sections. The third eight is from my top none Awesome Prog for 2008 list (I love the Kayo Dot album which was listed already).

"Other" as a voting option is intended to use if you don't like any of the listed options. That said, I would ask people to mention their favourites both on and off the list. If, for instance, your favourite on the list is Gojira's, but your actual favourite from 2008 is New Kids On The Block's The Block, then I request voting for and mentioning Gojira's album in a post while also mentioning New Kids on the Block's as being your actual favourite album of 2008.

So I would like to hear about what people like both on AND off the list if applicable and, to reiterate, for the "other" voting poll option only to be used if nothing is liked that is already listed. Again, mention as many of your favourites as you like, both and off the list. And feel free to mention what you don't like that is listed too, and then preferably why it does not appeal. Please mention your vote, mention if you can't vote (reason), and mention other likes if applicable. I am a details-oriented guy so don't worry about writing too much, as long as it is sufficiently relevant I guess, and I do prefer attempting positivism (maybe because I am a quite negative person by nature and often try to work to put a cherry on top of the sh*t). :)

I forgot to list my top 20 and the listing is somewhat arbitrary often, and often it's lower because I have not listened to the album in a much longer time than others and I often favour that which is newer to me.

1. Portishead - Third
Dark Atmospheric Exp English Prog Post Electronic/Independent
2. Kayo Dot - Blue Lambency Downward
Mysterious Atmospheric Exp Prog Avant Rock/Metal
3. Isengrind / TwinSisterMoon / Natural Snow Buildings - The Snowbringer Cult
Somber Pastoral French Prog-Adj Drone Folk
4. Juana Molina - Un día
Hypnotic Psych Exp Latin Prog Post Pop/Rock
5. Rational Diet - At Work
    Complex Exp Prog Avant RIO/Zeuhl
6. Guapo - Elixirs
Gloomy Minimalistic Exp Prog Avant Rock/RIO
7. Secret Chiefs 3 - Book of Angels, Vol 9: Xaphan
    Eclectic Exp Prog Avant RIO/Jazz
8. Elephant9 - Dodovoodoo
    Prog Fusion/Rock
9. Oneohtrix Point Never - Ruined Lives
10. Big Blood - Big Blood & The Bleedin' Hearts
Melancholic Pastoral Exp Non-Prog Avant Folk/Punk
11. John Zorn - The Crucible
Manic Noisy Exp Prog Avant RIO/Metal
12. Birds and Buildings - Bantam To Behemoth
    Anxious Complex Prog Avant Rock/Jazz
13. Matt Elliott - Howling Songs
Dark Acoustic Prog-Adj Avant Folk/Singer Songwriter
14. Grouper - Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill
Lethargic Psych Exp Non-Prog Drone Folk/Pop
15. Jean Louis - Jean Louis
    Brutal Chaotic Prog Avant Jazz/Rock
16. Diagonal - Diagonal
    Complex Prog Retro Rock/Jazz
17. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
    Satirical Melodic Neo Non-Prog Pop/Electronic
18. One Shot - Dark Shot
    Prog Rock/Jazz
19. Universal Totem Orchestra - The Magus
    Prog Zeuhl
20. Jannick Top - Infernal Machina
    Prog Zeuhl

Portishead's Third is my clear winner, and while I don't usually vote in my own polls, I will this time. A couple of my favourite tracks off the album:

Radiohead covered The Rip. They say that two heads are better than one and Radiohead and Portishead together would make for an awesome concert.

Good album from what I vaguely remember (been considerable years since I heard it), although I prefer Moon Safari by Air.    Big Airhead here, in more ways than one.

Birds and Buildings. It's going to take a lot of coleslaw to pry me from this roof.

Moon Safari - [Blomljud] almost tied with Beardfish and Birds and Buildings, all great albums.

Actually I was worried that starting with this poll I wouldn't have much to contribute, as I got into prog in 2009, but I guess in the years since I've come across many of these albums that were highly appreciated, I've heard a good chunk of this list. Opeth, Rational Diet, Steven Wilson are also good.

Also good, not on the list:
A.p.a.t.t. - Black & White Mass
Fleet Foxes - s/t
Major Parkinson - S/t
Make a Rising - Infinite Ellipse and Head with Open Fontanel
Pin-Up Went Down - 2Unlimited
Slim Cessna's Auto Club - Cipher

I voted for Steven Wilson. I do like that album and would include it in my list from Mike's Awesome Prog site but it doesn't seem to be available for that year.

Now fixed.

Jannick Top's Infernal Machina clearly over all of these (I mean those I know, which isn't that many). From the list probably Secret Chiefs 3 > Insurgentes.

^ Infernal Machina is in my top five for sure, big fan. From the list Insurgents over At Work and Dark Shot.
Universal Totem Orchestra's The Magus is right there too.
