   Formed in 2013, Writhing Squares are an American band based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, performing a noisy psychedelic "space punk" fuelled by reeds and drum machine, imagining a proggy fusion of the Stooges, Hawkwind, Chrome, Suicide and Roxy Music. Originally the duo of Ecstatic Vision's Kevin Nickles (saxophone/flute/keyboards/vocals) and Purling Hiss' Daniel Provenzano (bass/keyboards/programmed drums/vocals), Writhing Squares added live drummer John Schoemaker to their roster around 2021.

Sonically reminiscent of their contemporaries 10 000 Russos, Psychic Ills and Wooden Shjips (and their spinoff Moon Duo), Writhing Squares' discography consists of several singles and splits, along with four full-length albums, the latter three released through Chicago label Trouble in Mind.
