Änglagård Appreciation Thread

A lot of bands don't get their own thread on here. No Yes or Genesis thread either. We can't have special threads for everyone. However, I'm a fan of Anglagard so I won't complain. ;) 

I think Hybris is still my favorite overall, but I still dig the other two studio records.

I listened to Hybris the other day and still love it. It has its own special atmosphere that modern Scandi prog bands are still trying to imititate (Jordsjo for instance). Par Lindh's 1994's Gothic Impressions also has it. Those are 2 of the most important prog albums of the 90's. I was never such a big fan of Epilog or the more recent Viljans Oga. However the spin off band All Traps On Earth and their album A Drop Of Light is a serious rival to Hybris.

I have such fond memories of discovering that Swedish scene, much later though but that was the cool part, hearing Anglagard, Anekdoten, Landberk and Sinkadus as I made my way through their albums. Landberk was a difficult band to find physical copies for but I did manage to do that over the years.
Actually a lot of my greatest memories musically were going through the music of Canterbury, Zeuhl or Krautrock for example and just sitting in that style of music for months.
Hybris is still my favourite but Epilog and Viljans Oga round out my top three. The latter shows a band in capable hands still despite some band changes. All Traps On Earth were mentioned and Johan Brand certainly has made his presence felt in latter day Anglagard.

I consider this band to be a true gem. In my case, I had a first round listening to Hybris, and I remember feeling like there was a bit too much going on. It took some time before I revisited their music, and it was Epilog that first sank in. Through Epilog I connected with Hybris, and I grew to appreciate its raw, intricate sound. Yet some time went by before I listened to Viljans Öga, which I found to be outstanding as well. While sounding a bit different than the previous albums, production is spot on and composition-wise, I don't believe it gets any better than that. I would recommend anyone to give it a chance, in case they haven't yet.
Will they ever record another album? I certainly hope so...
By the way, I haven't listened to Traps on Earth yet, so I'll definitely give it a try...

In fact, I read on Änglagård.net that it was mixed and engineered by Alar Suurna who mixed Viljans Öga. It's head and shoulders above Buried Alive (which, on the drums in particular, has way too much room-sound / reverb for my liking).
