Cannery Row by John Steinbeck (my second attempt at it-not a difficult book but I have a habit of starting books and not finishing them)

Agree amazing book. The stark, poetic prose and haunting depiction of a post-apocalyptic world are incredibly compelling. McCarthy's ability to convey deep emotion and raw survival instincts makes this book a powerful and unforgettable read.

Agree, though I'm not sure I'd call MacCarthy's prose "Poetic", it's the opposite of that really, but perhaps in a way, it's poetic in the fact that it's not poetic? ![]() Reading Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy |

I've nearly finished the 3rd book in the Three Body series - uttrerly brilliant. Then it will be The Redemption of Time by Baoshu. I'm so impressed by Cixin Liu I've just bought The Wandering Earth, The Supernova Era and Ball Lightening.

Hi,
RE-READING the book EUROCK by Archie Patterson, a very large book that contains all of his periodicals from the earliest days of "progressive" and "art rock" until about 2000 ... the whole thing is very strong and detailed, on the German scene, but in general, all of Europe was really well served by that periodical. The book is fantastic, though it is huge and is a sizeable investment in your time ... that's how much detail it has. And I haven't got to Richard Pinhas philosophical stuff which is way out there for me!

I'm all done with the Three Body series. The last, additional, book written by Baoshu is definitely worth reading after the main 3 books. For anyone who's not read it, it goes into detail about what happened (and happens) to Yun Tianming. The last page has a neat little twist too. All in all a fascinating series of hard Sci-fi.
Next book for me to read will be Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.

Just finished the Dio biography/autobiography. Pretty interesting to compare his memory of events versus those in Geezer's book. Also, his take on the whole situation with Viv Campbell is, again, pretty different from what Viv has stated in interviews. One funny part, when addressing Viv's complaints, he said (paraphrasing here), "If you think I'm a tough guy, if you think I'm bossy, try dealing with Ritchie Blackmore or Tony Iommi." Like, you ain't seen nothin', kid. No doubt, the real truth is somewhere in the middle of the various accounts.
