Hi guys,
I'm new here and found a pretty interesting thread about Quebec Progressive Rock. However, I cannot comment on it since the thread is closed. Also, since I can't seems to find any way to see a list of Quebec Progressive Artist with a filter or something on PA, I'm suggesting maintaining a list in this post (I will edit it) so people can find such a thing pretty easily. What do you think? Let's start with some of the most popular: CANO (French-Canadian, but from Ontario) Concept Neuf Concert Jacques Brégent Vincent Dionne Yves Laferrière I will add link to their PA pages later. :)

Nice!
After Bernard (Bertolino)'s post on the band Mangeur des Rêves today, I was curious to see a list or discussion thread regarding Prog Quebecois. I only know the music of eight (8) of the artists on your list though I only own albums by seven. I look forward to exploring more of these. Are there any you would recommend that I begin with? (besides Coventum, Harmonium, Maneige, Opus 5, Pollen, Sloche, and Miriodor)? Thank you! P.S. Don't forget to add Serge Fiori and Mangeur des Rêves to your list! |

If you like the folk side of things don't miss Garolou. CANO is from Northern Ontario but worth the detour

Great list, JayPare, and welcome to the forum!
Michel Madore should not be forgotten. His album le Komuso à Cordes is wonderful. Sadly it hasn't been reissued on CD and never will be. |

The sole album from Maesltrom, recorded in '76 but only put out by ProgQuebec a few years ago, is also a winner that deserves its place on the list:
I mean, if it had come out at the time, I think people would be putting these guys up in the front rank alongside Sloche, Maneige and Opus 5. Lead vocalist / guitarist / sax player Denis Poliquin was quite a talent - though if Discogs is to be believed, he recorded virtually nothing else.

I added almost all of them, now I need to add those from http://www.progquebec.com/artistlist.html. It sucks their list is actually an image but I will take some time to do it soon.

I know six of those, and know of (but have not heard) a further two. Lots to investigate!

I'm familiar and have enjoyed Et Cetera, ExCubus, Harmonium, Jacques Tom Rivest, Morse Code, Pollen, and Talisma. Obviously there are some bigger names there that are on my list to eventually investigate, particularly Miriodor, Maneige, and Sloche.
Great idea for compiling a list!

Wow, A Canadian/Québécois thread I missed for almost two years now. I must've been sleeping back then.
If you're going to include CANO, than you'll have to include Nathan Mahl, based in Ottawa, but consisted of mostly French-speaking Canadians, with Acadian (New Brunswick-born and now sadly RIP) Guy Leblanc as their leader (he played with Camel and a couple other projects). I don't think the band survived Lebanc's death in the mid-10's, though. They sang in English, and had their Heretik trilogy, though I hopped down from: the train after Clever Use Of Shadows.
