This has been my favourite cover of "Trilogy" by the Jad&Den Quintet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNxoIDPoURY Will be interested to hear Ms. Flowers version. Well the Rachel Flowers version is excellent. She has a beautiful touch on the ivories, and she has an absolutely lovely voice. Was that all solo? Pretty incredible, and not terribly comparable to the one I posted since one is a chamber jazz group, and the other is a solo effort using electronics plus piano. EDIT: Decided to combine my posts. That, I respectfully question - it's maybe with a program on the computer, no ? |

She plays her drums parts on the keyboard live. Here is her on a live stream she did while she recorded Zomby Woof. Jump to about 18:15. In the final mix down of the live stream the drum part is in the lower right corner. Edited by rminsk - July 23 2017 at 14:05 |

Hi, The nicest thing about all of her work, is that it adds a nice touch and feeling to EVERTHING that we consider "progressive", and makes it come out like ... HISTORY. Think about this ... your local symphony plays Beethoven and Bach and what not ... and Rachel plays many things ... and all of them totally well, out of this world ... and all the instruments are in her hands. Puts a new meaning in "progressive".

Both excellent covers, but still nothing beats the vocal performance of Greg of the first part of the song. IMO in Rachels take the vocal should be mixed at a much higher volume. Also personally I'd like the beginning a little slower tempo, and then accentuate some parts with more rubato. In tempo and dynamics, but she plays it all very well and clean.
But the cover Logan posted is way more to my liking, you can be free in a cover to change things, makes it interesting to listen to. Never thought it would be so suitable for a jazz combo. Oh and yeah that vocal scatty thing together with the piano is outstanding!

Hi,
Of all the things I have heard Rachel do, including the CD of hers I picked up, the one that stands out for me, is the different one ... in one show, she did a piano version of an ELP song, and it shows you what a great composer he was, and how well the band helped bring the piece of music alive. And stuff like that, makes you proud of the musicianship and the love and care, for the music ... and how its presentation is a true wonder and something that lights up our spirits like nothing else can!

Rachel stole the show at the recent Keith Emerson Tribute in Birmingham - with Fugue from The Endless Enigma and then the Piano Concerto 3rd Movement. Bought her Listen album from ITunes and regularly check out her YouTube posts. A great talent with a real love of ELP - she deserves our support, bless her!

Her soundcloud page was a complete revelation to me. The Montana cover is beautiful. This cover of Trilogy is newer. Also wonderful. She had a great relationship with both Misters Emerson and Lake.
I love Rachel. Edited by Frankh - September 17 2017 at 19:42 |

(btw seen the Jad and Den Trilogy on utube as well, and liked it very much. So quirky! Trilogy is probably my favorite ELP tune)

I think she did a great job on that cover, of course nothing will beat Keith Emerson playing it but she did a pretty good job :)
