Topic: Does anybody read 'The Wire'? Posted: January 21 2015 at 05:25 |
Although this is not a prog magazine as such, I think it is an excellent read. I like the fact it will focus on the prog groups who at least try to remain creative, i.e. King Crimson, and will review live performances and albums by the same criteria. Articles such as the Yes epiphany written by an industrialist sound squelcher are another delight. To give some idea of its positioning, it's album of the year for 2014 was Syro by The Aphex Twin.

I think many of the artists covered are clearly worthy of the attention but otherwise, it's a pile of (well written) esoteric hippy art-w.a.n.k which shares that particular trait of most purveyors of the avant-garde i.e. it's populated by theater ponces pretending they can't read.

Don't be sorry, it's a very highly regarded publication in progressive music circles. Just because I think it sucks doesn't invalidate your own view.

I'm aware of this magazine, but I usually only browse their website. Since it's available at my favorite record store, I should try to get it one of these days. Otherwise, I used to read the Frence magazine Revue & Corrigée - at least, the albums reviews, because some articles are somewhat abit too much theoretical and complex for me.

Ten years ago an old friend of mine was featured on the front cover, and the interview inside had a couple of paragraphs about my band, which was nice. Then later we reformed and were mentioned several times a year, a couple of mini features and several reviews, plus our name on the cover twice in one year. Not so much in the last few years though, although we did get a mention one or two issues back.
Apart from that, it's good to flick through in the shop but I rarely buy it.
