Topic: Your Favorite "B" of Classic Hard/Heavy Rock Posted: October 21 2012 at 17:41 |
I thought i'd start a Poll on your favorite Classic period Hard/Heavy Rock Group starting with "B" I have included a lot of my favorites, groups that i have grown to love over many years with a signature hard and heavy sound. My favorite, though, is a group that is from way back in the early seventies, but whose album was not released until just fairly recently, Bullet, formed by Atomic Rooster musicians John du Cann and Paul Hammond, teaming up with Quatermass bassist/vocalist John Gustafson. The group's music is finely honed and brilliantly played heavy rock, and they sing and play their hearts out on their single album "The Entrance To Hell", as if their lives depended on it. They have some stiff competition here, but Bullet are the one for me. What is your pick?

Easily Black Sabbath, Doug, can't go wrong with any of their first 6 albums, and the bluesy debut album is one of my all-time favourites!
But I will mention Budgie's `Squawk!' alone is ALSO in my top all-time albums, although I'm slowly giving more of theirs a listen! Might go listen to it at work again later today.
Sing it with me!

Yeah, early Sabbath is quite something. I love Squawk as well, very catchy and well played "And if you see the sign of the Rocking Man, look at what your doing" Da-da da-da!

Until a couple of days ago, I probably would have voted Blue Oyster Cult, but I am really into Sabbath lately.

Boston, just for their excellent debut. That's the kind of stuff that got me into music - it has sentimental value! More Than A Feeling is really a classic, representative 70's Rock tune - inspired a generation. It's funny how the depiction of the lyrics coincidentally apply and relate 40 years after. I guess the guys knew it was going to be a hit.

I'll give a vote for Budgie. Have to support your own.

Black Sabbath seems the obvious choice, but I really only like the Ozzy-period stuff, and they've got a ton of albums after that. I'm going to vote Bloodrock because I think they're a very undernoticed band that has released some really cool music. The first three albums are all pretty solid, especially the first.

Black Sabbath by a country mile, but an honourable mention to Budgie.
[edit]
OK, not on the list, but this is my favorite 'B' in heavy rock:

Any given day could be Boston or Black Sabbath. Sent my vote Boston's way.

Well, so far, almost every band has received at least one vote, except Blue Cheer. As far as Boston goes, i was lucky enough to have seen them live during their first tour in support of their debut album. Great show. I have seen Sabath three times, but never with Ozzy. Twice with Dio, and once with Ian Gillan. (I have seen Ozzy twice as a solo artist) I have live DVDs of Bloodrock and Blue Cheer that would knock your socks off! Don't know what BOC or Bullet would be like live. Never seen Budgie, but on youtube is a great vid of them doing Breadfan from '73-awesome!

I saw BOC live once, but it was an outdoor festival gig and I thought they underperformed pretty badly.

I saw them at an outdoor festival gig too! It was about 15 years ago, at a "Chili Cook-off". The show was pretty unmemorable, except that I was surprised how much "Buck Dharma" Roeser looked like a friend of my dad's.

When BOC are good, they're great. But when they're bad, they're just bad.
