I have had a Yahmaha C-40 for many years. It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I don't know anything about Yamaha guitars, but I'd suggest considering some other brands before making your decision. My first guitar was a Fender DG-8S acoustic from one of the introduction to guitar box sets you see in stores nowadays. My parents bought it for me on my 12th birthday, and after five years it's held up well. It's pretty amazing how good this guitar sounds; it was obviously built as a beginner guitar but it sounds much better than its price would indicate. A lot of my friends have acoustic guitars that are technically worth more money but don't sound as good as mine. Obviously it's not going to sound as good as a top of the line model, but it will last you well into your guitar playing journey and won't break the bank. After five years of playing, I'm now a serious musician but have no real desire to buy a new guitar because mine sounds so good. I think this is a testament to the quality of the material coming out of Fender; even the cheap guitars are good quality (Squier, a branch of Fender, is a different story entirely. I wouldn't recommend any of their guitars, they sound terrible). Of course, if you really want a Yamaha then it's your decision, but I'd encourage you to broaden your search, because you can find some good stuff for a low price, especially if you buy used.

By the way krupagk, this thread probably fits better in the "musicians and musicians' exchange" section of the forum, just for future reference. Don't be surprised if the admins move it there.
