I have to be in the mood for Riverside, but can listen to Katatonia any time.
There is in fact more earth than sea.

Like both, but I think Riverside is better. Katatonia recorded many weak albums and new one is just decent in my opinion. From Riverside I don't like the debut only.

Riverside, no question. Katatonia are still a good band who have had a long lasting influence on many different styles of metal and rock... but Riverside are magic.

Riverside.

They are really damn good.
Katatonia, while I'll admit I'm no expert, I was never really floored by them.
In fact I'm no expert because I never really wanted to listen again!

riverside for sure,

i really like katatonia - viva emptiness is still on my regular listenings but i find them nowadays somehow repetitive.

now riveside WOW!

they have grown on me so so much! all albums are stupidly good. they´re just wonderfull songs after wonderfull songs

and resentment rides high but emotions won´t grow
And we´re changing our ways, taking different roads..
Then love, love will tear us apart again.."

Riverside.

Katatonia are more consistent than Riverside, but Riverside's music at its best strikes me as superior.

I kind of don't get all the love for early Katatonia (death/doom era); I think there are much more interesting artists in the genre.

Night is the New Day is pretty awesome though.

Riverside for sure.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Going with Riverside, but to be honest I'm not very familiar with Katatonia. Pandora plays them for me sometimes, though, and I like what I've heard.
