Hello.

I know there have been other threads for Sun Ra recommendations, and I might have even started one of those as well, but I'm here wondering where should I go next in my Sun Ra journey. At least, I think I have all the basics down....

Heres what I have:

Atlantis
Heliocentric Worlds Vol I/II
Solar Myth Approach Vol I/II
Angels And Demons At Play
The Nubians Of Plutonia
Space Is The Place (not the soundtrack)
Fate In A Pleasent Mood
When Sun Comes Out
Cosmic Tones For Mental Therapy/Art Forms Of Dimensions Tomorrow
Other Planes Of There
Secrets Of The Sun
The Futuristic Sounds Of Sun Ra
Strange Strings
The Magic City
Supersonic Jazz

I'm certainly much more intereted in the free-jazz/avant-garde side of Sun Ra, even though Angels And Demons...was quite excellent with all of its big band jazzness. So where should I go next? Still quite a discog remaining and rather than take what would essentially be a blind chance I figured I'd ask the experts. So...suggestions?

I like Sun Ra, but I only have two of his albums and you listed them both. Have you tried his collaboration with Pharaoh Sanders? I'm sure that would be interesting.

Word. essential listening.

Also:

- It's After the End of the World
- Pictures of Infinity
- Disco 3000
- Cosmic Equation (unofficial version of Heliocentric worlds)

If you like something a little more funky
- Strange Celestial Road
- Lanquidity (this one has an irrefutable foot tapping quality, showing Sun Ra was a cat who knew how to roll with the cool)

Excellent. Nuits seems to need to go to the top of the list. And I found samples from IATEOTW...VERY enjoyable. Definitely going to track that one down.

Listened to some samples from Lanquidity as well...not really my type of thing. Though, very intereting to hear the Ra in that context.

@ Llama: That did look interesting....perhaps I should investigate it further.

Thanks for the responses. Thumbs Up
