I've had to use an Apple computer lately at the Starbuck's down the street because a friend is installing a new system for me. Yes I'm moving up in the 21st century. I just gave him the money, told him what I want and to go nuts.
But these Apple computers ( I'm on one now ) don't format the same way a s other computers. for example Apples won't display the template on my crappy free website. Everytime someone tries to copy and paste from something i've sent them using an Apple it comes out all cockeyed. A few people have told me to stay away from them. Bitchy things. emails get srewed up as well. Myspaces don"t format. I can't believe this company is in business. I went to the Apple store downtown and the sales staff don't have a clue. One kid tries for half an hour to get the template up on my website which is a picture of Father time here it is www.thedayoftimestop.webs.com and can't get it to display along with the blue background. He blames it on the site then I show him all kinds of other formatting problems. Then he blames gmail progarchives and military.com for being f**ked up ![]() How can this company be in bloody business?????????

Some people love them. Personally I subscribe to the theory that all computers are crap and designed deliberately so.

I guess you have to chose your poison - or your crap - I've had my iBook G4 for years (too many actually, I need one that's up to speed) and have been quite pleased with its reliability and complete protection from anything even resembling a virus or corrupt file. Six of one, half-dozen of the other, I guess.

I've never tried an Apple computer, but if there are compatibility problems, why do you blame Apple and not Microsoft? Besides, the situation is much better now than it was in the 80's when there were dozens of different computer makes, each with their own operating system.

Just because you aren't used to something doesn't make it crap. I've never had a single problem with any of the stuff you're talking about. Why not call Apple's award-winning customer service instead of bitching about it on here?
EDIT: Wait a minute . . . do you even own the apple computer, and how many have you used? I guess I didn't quite understand the specifics of what you were saying. If it is a public computer that everyone has been using, there may have been some settings that have been messed with. If it's a computer that you and/or a friend personally own, the customer service should be able to help you out quite easily. All I can say is that your website shows up fine to me, and I'm an apple user. If you're having issues on ones you've tried, it's not because they're apple. If they all couldn't work properly, I doubt anybody would support them. Edited by JLocke - April 04 2010 at 09:37 |

I'll be honest and say I've never used an Apple product, I don't care for the apple as far as fruits go. And by the way, this old fart goes back to shortly before Windows 3.1 and started out with plain old DOS. Currently using a Windows 7 64 bit and I stand by my original statement. I suppose I'd be completely happy with one of those ipons...

I've not had much experience using Apples, but from what I've seen they seem pretty good. I know a few people who say they would never touch a PC again, after using Mac's. My friends Imac seems to boot up live a TV, ie, fast! He has also had really good service from Apple, when he dropped his powerbook down the stairs (doh!) they repaired it and got it back to him within 48 hours. Free of charge.
I guess everyone has different experiences with Macs and PC's. I've always used PC's because I'm used to Windows OS's. I cant be arsed to change right now, and Apple machines are quite pricey. |

Understandable. And clearly, some people are indeed happier with PCs, but it all comes down to preference. To call one make of computer/operating system 'crap' when compared to one you normally use seems a little rash even to me, and believe me, I used to say that about Windows machines all the time. Anymore, though, I just realize that we all have our own preference, and I can see why some people prefer PCs over Macs. The reasons you gave for preferring PCs are legitimate and were presented in a calm, non-hostile fashion. I applaud that. ![]() Hell, some people even prefer Linux. |

It's all hardware/OS. The hardware is essentially the same, except the PC platform gives one a choice of hardware, and which hardware, in the PC case, is exponentially configurable to the whims of the user.
OS is just a matter of choice. Some like Mac OS, some like Windows. Neither is inherently better. The argument can be made that Mac OS is less sucsceptible to viruses, malware, etc. Why would anyone spend time fishing in a pond only occupied by 10% of the fish?, when the other 90% is so much more willing to bite. The same reason they'd be writing software for that 90%.
Apple makes excellent consumer devices. I don't need to list them, but I will: all their pc's, the Ipod, the Iphone, now the Ipad. There is nothing wrong with any of these. My family has more than a few.
Many diverse manufacturer's make excellent PC hardware, and MS once in a while makes great software. We own more than a few of those as well.
My daughter had a decent consumer-grade HP laptop. It died. My son had a great IMac. It died. About four years lifetime for both. I've got an Acer netbook, running XP. It works well. My wife has a Gateway desktop, running Win 7. It works. There's an old Compaq desktop 'round here still working. It's running XP. It ain't so happy anymore, but jeez it's six or seven years old. It rebooted one evening and re-installed original XP. Don't know why and frankly don't have the inclination to figure out why. Have an HP laptop that frankly is a POS. Not Microsoft's fault, as it's well known that the AMD configuration for the machine is garbage.
Just bought a ThinkPad running Win 7. We'll see how that goes. At least it ain't no Macbook Air, which was a very appropriate name.
f**king computers. To quote Homer Simpson, the cause of, and the solution to, all of our problems.

I know how you feel... I use Vista, and one day the system just decided that I could no longer burn any discs using my media player. One of the few things I acually use the damn computer for is for creating CD compilations for people (I don't always have the patience to do mix tapes) So the most fundamental use I had for it was actually knocked off apparently by a Windows Update coming through! There are some serious flaws with this system, honest, I can't even replace Vista with XP because it came intact with the computer so it will really screw things up if I try that.

Apple computers are too system exclusive. The O/S software seems like a compromise, as if Wozniak wants to really take on the big guns, he's fooling himself. Where is I.B.M. in all of this?

^ speaking of matter, Yahoo turns my computer into heavy grey (mudlike) MATTER, yet it's advertisments move and blink with crystal clear clarity. I use an old sony vaio that runs (barely) windows XP, so I know that that is the problem, not Yahoo or should i say boo-hoo

I don't like the Mac UI.
I use Win 7.
The stability of Macs is because they use proprietary hardware, so they don't have to take into account the many variables. |
