Procol Harum 40th anniversary editions

   Well Procol & co. are finding another way to separate me from my hard-earned $$.  On the good side, this is the first time I've bought the Procol CD's (except for one compilation) and my LP's have seen better days.

I've picked up the first three (Procol Harum, Shine on Brightly, A Salty Dog).  I've only listened to the first so far, but the remastered sound is good -- certainly better than the old LP's and a notch up over my compilation -- and the packaging what I would expect from a 40th anniversary edition.  Generous bonus tracks are included, at the end of each CD, so if you don't care for those (though why wouldn't you want a copy of Homburg?), they do not interrupt the original album flow.

As to the AWSOP legal battle mentioned in these parts, per his word Gary Brooker is not credited...it's now a Reid/Fisher composition, at least until further battle lines can be drawn and further legal wranglings take place.  The song remains, however, a touchstone of early psychdelic prog, regardless of credits, though I still say the real gem on this album is Fisher's Repent Walpurgis, which can make a legit claim to being the first pure progressive rock song ever recorded.

	I've also got the first 3. Well worth getting if you don't already have them. I've ordered Grand Hotel too which should be with me soon.

	Yep I'll end up getting Home, Broken Barricades, and Grand Hotel, none of which I still have on LP, nor have ever had on CD. Can't remember much of Broken Barricades, other than Simple Sister, and Grand Hotel is a blur...about the only thing I remember from that is Bringing Home the Bacon.
	Can you tell me where we're headin'? Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

	I am 43. Grand Hotel was my first contact with Procol Harum. My father owned it (vinyl version of course ) and I got hold of it somewhere in the late seventies, early eighties (last century...) . IMHO it is an extraordinary album, I never get tired of listening to it. The sound is absolutely perfect, and the melodies, performance, lyrics, etc., likewise. When thinking of competition for Procol's best album, to me only the first four are on a par... As I also have Grand Hotel's cd version I am now planning on getting the first four (40th an. editions) and Exotic Fruits and Vegetables, and decide on the best...Well, not that important really, all of the above are stunning stuff really... So if you don't have Grand Hotel, get it so that you can tell a rum tale, watch tv ceasar, get into Robert's box and fires wich burnt brightly. Be prepared, when it comes to «souvenirs from London» it doesn't get any better than this! I'll be back! Paulo

	I been hearing PH A Salty Dog, the remaster version is very good sounding and have some live bonus tracks that i already have. I recommend to all those youngsters or newbies of prog, a must.

	Man, I recently bought a two disc set called The First Four.....basically the first four LPs sans the singles, which means no Whiter Shade.....OK by me, but the sound quality isn't what I thought it'd be.....not a total tragedy, but I'd love better fidelity for my favorite of the first four - Home. Anybody want to trade my new acquisition for the newly remastered Home? It'd make a nice PA forum poll - favorite post-Home PH album....or maybe post-Trower album.
	I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

	I have all the first 8 (or 9) studio albums love them all (Procols 9th a litle less), but they are all good and rocks hard. so good luck to you
