Hey folks, I am going to see them Aug 15. So I was wondering what you guys think here about Phish as a band (prog and jam)??

Personally, I was really into them and Grateful Dead early on but I haven't really heard them since few years. Still they are known for concerts so should be a treat. Any experiences to share about their concerts?

The last time I saw them was in 1998 - I saw them about 20 times from 1993-1998.  The last I saw them, they still were as inventive as ever on their older classics, but their newer songs found them mining a new groove-oriented style (read: 1 spacey chord for 20 minutes) that didn't appeal to me much.  At the same time, they were playing the largest amphitheaters around by that point, so I also missed the more intimate settings of their early 90s days.

I might see them again for old time's sake, but I'm not going out of my way anymore, like I used to.   Not to mention that nowadays I have a wife and kid, whereas before I was just a 20-something slacker with nothing better to do. LOL

Never saw them live, but heard a number of live recordings.  Some of their stuff I liked quite a bit, but the vocals really got on my nerves (their first album though, was pretty much a prog masterpiece I have to say).

The Greatful Dead on the other hand were the best live experience I've ever had in my life.  And I swear it wasn't just because of the drugs Embarrassed  Seriously.  They were improvisational masters par excellence.  Phish was pretty good at that as well, even great at their peak.
