Who's your favourite singer that sings in your native language. I.e. A Spaniard could vote for Petty Guelache (Bubu) but a German couldn't vote for Frank Bornemann (Eloy)
So... I speak french and I vote for Serge Fiori (Harmonium) or Éric Bibonne/Christian Descamps (Ange) ![]() Edited by ProGR72 - July 23 2009 at 20:16 |

I live in France but I was born in Poland, so I will give a favourite singer for each country :
- France : Pierre Bensusan (folk/jazz guitarist, who played with Didier Malherbe of Gong fame)
- Poland : Czeslaw Niemen (that is a rather obvious choice)

Being English kind of gives me too much to chose from. My favorite male singer is Peter Gabriel.
From my home town - Gary Brooker and Danielle Dax
From the town I currently live in - Alison Goldfrapp

Hi,
If we're talking singers that add to the music and make music with their voices, not just sing ... then the list is really small.
Peter Hammill - few are capable of the range of emotions and material, like he does. And it's a good thing that many people don't like real poets and singers! We don't need their popular music credentials comparison.
Sandy Denny -- the late singer went from singing her favorite Bob Dylan songs to traditionals and then her own. The progression all the way to her last song (One More Chance) is incredible, and if you listen to the remix version of this last song, it's uncanny and scary at the same time ... like she knew it was over and was asking for one more chance. It's hard not to feel that ... but it will never be "pop" music ... because the majority of that stuff is just that ... pop money, and has little to do with music.
Kate Bush -- It can be said that her latest stuff is not as free flowing and different as her earlier music was, but it is heartfelt and sincere, and that is a lot more than can be said for some DT fans around this board!
(I'll add more as I can)

Two of my favourites at the moment would be Daniel Gildenlow and Jem Godfrey, but it depends what mood I'm in. Variety is the spice of life.

Mike Patton by a long shot. There are many other singers with better voices but i don't think anyone comes close to his range and versatility. Recently i've been digging Dan Swano's clean voice especially with his Nightingale project.Devin Townsend,Steve Wilson,Garm,Peter Gabriel and Tetsuya Fukagaw of the criminally underratted band Envy are among my favorites.

Peter Hammill's voice moves like noone else's. I'm also a fan of Toby Driver's voice; quite frail but affecting. For pure ability goes I would have to say Mike Patton, Devin Townsend and Maynard James Keenan.

Neal definitely has an underrated voice. When he really sings, he REALLY SINGS! On top of that he's the greatest songwriter ever, so that helps ![]() |

Peter Hammill is all-time favourite singer! His disgraceful voice, his vocal derange from high soprano through to basso. His vocal performance, to me, is in the same level as the guitar performance of Jimi Hendrix...
From Indonesia, I love the legendary Chrisye. |
