I've read Progressive Rock Music from 1967 to 2004 at the home page, i found this stuff is interesting.

Good thread, but Dean did more than just Yes covers. He did some great covers for, among others, Gentle Giant, Uriah Heap, Budgie, Steve Howe (OK that's close enough to Yes) & Asia. I'm sure there are more I'm not remembering too.
Sorry for my anal-retentiveness. |

How about Hugh Syme? He is the best, for me.

Excellent point. Also, do photographic artists count? i.e. Storm Thorgerson (aka Hipgnosis) Edited by Ben2112 |

No order because each artist was ideal for the band they painted, I can't imagine a Genesis album with an excellent Roger Dean cover or a Yes album with Kim Poor drawings.
"... By our command waters retreat, show my power, halt at my feet ..." Iván BTW: Roger Dean painted extreamely beautiful covers for Osibisa. Edited by ivan_2068 |

dammit, you missed the best artwork designer, who was just as important as roger dean, maybe more important.
STORM THORGERSON! why is it that he is always missed off! I was bitterly unhappy to see that he wasn't mentioned on the prog guide on this site when he was the first major prog designer when floyd arrived, he's also worked with most of the major prog bands, more than roger anyway. |

then there's Patrick Woodroffe, who did the Pallas cover. There's room here for yet another joke about it being the best part of the album...also Dan Pearce, who did two Gryphon covers, and Phil Travers, who did the great Moody Blues covers. But Dean is still tops in my book. |

Mine is Peter Cross, who did the Anthony Phillips covers. I also like Patrick Woodroffe, but not only as a record artist. In fact only three times I have bought an album just for the cover, without knowing what was inside. Two were 'The Geese and the Ghost', by Peter Cross and Mike Batt's 'The hunting of the Snark', with a Woodroffe painting.

Mark Wilkinson for me I'm not really into covers, But a good cover enhances the storie. I'm not very keen on Dean, like, not love. |

Ed Unitsky is the new guy on the scene, but the Flower Kings, Tangent and Guy Manning covers are incredible.

I like Dean the best. Other favourites would be Syme, Hipnogisis and Poor.
