Topic: Announcing the new monthly ProgRock Records Club Posted: July 07 2008 at 16:27 |
We've just introduced a new program over at ProgRock Records, the ProgRock Records Club. As part of the ProgRock Records Club you will get a brand new, shrink wrapped CD shipped to you on the first of every month from our catalog (possibly even a DVD) for a year, that's 12 items with shipping and handling included for just $75 a year. This is a great way to discover new music that you might not have bought otherwise, and for a very tiny investment per CD. On the off chance that you end up getting a release that you already had, use it as a gift for a friend or family member and turn them on to the joys of Progressive Rock. You can sign up at: http://www.progrockrecords.com/shop/view.php?id=167

Wow, that's a gread idea! I'll definitely be considering it. Does everyone get the same CD each month or are they randomly distributed?

That's a good question, and one I struggled with initially and decided just from a sheer management perspective we'd send the same CD to everyone every month, I'm just going to use a random generator to pull the title from our list, if it's something we're almost out of print on and the club uses up all the items without filling all the members, then we'll randomly pick another one to fill it out or maybe change it to another title. So we'll start this with shipping on August 1. With about 100 titles now, you'll be able to get new stuff for years :).

Shawn, Let me just say thank you very much for your selection of the first CD of the month. As of right now, Presto Ballet's The Lost Art of Time Travel is easily the front runner for my 2008 album of the year. I had really thought that title might go to The Tangent or Tiles, whose albums I really enjoyed, but they both lacked the Wow factor that the Presto Ballet CD had. I invite you to read my review on this terriffic album.
Thank you.
Scott

well I tell you what, Shawn...Scott's taste in music and understanding of prog is very well tuned...
...so I'm now intrigued to hear this one for myself...
incidentally: Amaran's Plight: Voice In The Light...what an album.... ...you must have been absolutely over the moon about that one...

We've got audio samples of everything on our site, and if you go to www.mindawn.com our digital download site, you can listen to any song in full up to 3 times, so you can easily check it out. Yes, Amaran's Plight is a fantastic album, I was very honored to get to play on it myself as these are some of my favorite musicians, it also led to Nick coming to me with his Lamb project, and other upcoming collaborations.

Interesting program, Shawn, I'll be sure to check it out. Wanted to reiterate again that mindawn is my ideal music service by offering FLAC downloads, and I'm happy to see you guys are getting new artists in all the time, I'm particularly pleased about Moonjune records coming on board. Keep up the good work!

I actually have been spending more time around here lately, I'm active on a few different threads right now, but as you can see from all our recent announcements (and more to come in the next week), it has been busy as hell around here lately. I'm actually getting interviewed in a couple hours by a guy for his MBA on how to run an indie label in the current business climate, I'm quite honored about that one.

Guys - I subscribed, and just to let you know that for the last 2 months at least Shawn has offered 2 alternatives to the recommended selection so there is a small element of choice, rather than just a random allocation of a CD.
Chain.exe (by Chain) for me last month...liked it, so I'm going for them again this month!

So far I am 2 for 2 also. I absolutely loved the Presto Ballet CD and last month I got a Brother Ape CD which is very good. This month I am going with the Chain DVD. I had previously downloaded Chain.exe so that is one reason I didn't go with that one last month. I really like what I have heard from Henning Pauly though.

This month's choice was between:
Tadeshi Goto - Innervisions Zen Rock & Roll - End of the Age
Cross - Playgrounds
I plumped for Cross as it seemed closest to my taste from the reviews in the Archives. Looking forward to it!

I have and like both the Zen Rock & Roll and the Cross CDs. I'm not certain if the Tadeshi Goto is going to be to my tastes or not, but I'm going to give it a go.

On Joel's show recently they played some more John Huldt, and I'm going to think seriously about looking into that a bit more, as on a number of occasions I've been listening to a track and through 'That's good', then to discover it was John Huldt....

Did anyone get their e-mail from The Big Boss this month with the choices. I can't find it in my e-mail?

Not received yet, no. Maybe it'll be like last month when it was pretty late in February.
