I think this would be a good addition to the site. You can have chats in real time about a topic. And i figure it'll clear up the forums a bit from simple topics like "was peter gabriel bi-polar?" What would be cool is that apart from a main #progarchives channel, you can have it so any member can open his own topic and call it like #rush, #genesis, or whatever.

Btw, IRC = Internet Relay Chat

I'd love there to be some kind of officially sponsored chat of some sort. Although as someone said in one of those other threads, it would probably just become a clique-ish sort of thing where people no longer talk about prog, but talk about their personal lives as well which wards off any new members. I entered the chat in progressiveears once a week ago or so and that's what it basically was. However, I'm guessing some sort of effort could be put in to keep that from happening. I think it would still be cool to try though.

Well, it's just, that all the people here, that are from a huge variety of surroundings have one specific thing in common,, and that's prog music. So basically it's quite impossible to not talk about prog every now and then. I bet someone new asking What's Yes like? would get everyones answer.

I personally spend more or less time at some specific channels, and basically yes, people tend to get friendly there, though it's a smaller community. But how we're friends is basically through the main topic, which in the case mentioned would be the Adventure Game Studio, here ProgArchives or progressive music in all its forms. I'd really support this idea again, though in the last thread I started people seemed a bit less enthusiastic... and yeah, the VR is such a mess really, that no-one new can get inside it without reading all the 250 pages of what's for milk or who's the hamburger posts...

Melo's prog bazaar has a nifty chat solution, another nice solution is used at www.progrock.com.

Especially the latter have caught my eye in terms of userfriendlyness, and doesn't look like it would be to difficult to implement here either.

If there is an actual demand is another case entirely of course ;-)
