There is still too much sniping on this site and it is off-putting. Much of it seems to come from those who do not read the original topic.

That's really too vague to be able to respond to or do anything about.

We try to maintain a balance between keeping things pleasant and allowing free speech. Some people complain that we are too strict, others that we are not strict enough. You can please some of the people some of the time and all that...

At the end of the day, we have documented rules and guidelines. If you think someone has breached those then report it, preferably privately, to a member of the Admin team and we will look at it.

As with any Internet forum though, tolerance is an essential skill to have when visiting.

I know some "acid" or "direct" members exist around here, otherwise I don't really understand what "snipping" exactly means...

I believe this is what he’s referring to:

Sniping –verb (used without object)

- "to shoot at someone from a concealed or distant position".

it's been worse than it is now around here... and what more can you ask than good Admins?  No one can be *prevented* from sniping before it happens (and it does add a bit of excitement now and then, even the spectacle of someone being tossed out  Embarrassed  Tongue )

I've never had, as a Collab, any snipping habits, but if necessary, I can get fit on it.

First, by drinking some

As a one time regular contributor (my internet access is now limited to public access), I was one of those who would sometimes respond without reading the entire 50 pages of previous posts. Guilty as I am, I see it as natural that not everyone who happens onto an interesting thread will bother to go over the whole history of the discussion if the replies are very numerous. Even worse, if you do, you find that many just repeat themselves. As a habit, I'd usually read those posts from certain members who I thought could be counted on for interesting, well reasoned & valid debating.

Actual real life PA experience - I did get feedback from an Admin person once in regards to a , ahem, over zealous poster. I had closed my previous account due to a discomforting response. When I announced my return and explained in very general terms the reason for my changing tagnames, I got a PM asking & actually guessing the incident in question. I was also told that the member had been "talked to" in the past, and that PA treated all members, admin/collabs AND other PA visitors as expected to follow the site guidelines, with the aforementioned penalties applicable to all.
