SENOGUL — Senogul
Review by Almanzor (Francisco)

A new Spanish Prog/Prog Andaluz classic Approve ? But I miss the name of Triana Unhappy ....

The review is fine and I PMed and mailed the reviewer warning about the use of the English language to avoid future problems. Pity to lose so much information.

Too bad... Such a great album deserves those words of praise (which I somehow understood from the review which is most likely good but alas, not in English as PA's rules say).
Waiting for Erik's review now...

I will use it to improve my Spanish and I am sure the band has stored this review because their guitarist is a Prog Archives member, isn't it Carakhallo Wink ?
Avestin, I just wrote Senogul that I still haven't received their album after two weeks (send on July 16th) Cry ..

I'm unable to read Spanish at all, however, I just ran that through the Google Spanish to English translator-bot and it's remarkably readable - and well written IMHO.

Quote The disc homónimo of Senogul is compedio of multitude of musical visions made reality under an own machinery of the most revolutionary rock. The music of Senogul is fresh and rich in shades, as much by its harmonic and rythmical variety, as by the use of multitude of instruments and different timbres. In spite of being a relatively young band, its music sounds mature. And it is that in the songs of Senogul so soon it sounds a tango, as a zappiana part, like endiablado groove funky. One of the things that more please me of the foreseeable group is that they are not nothing, and are able to give thousand returns to a song of a natural and fluid way, not as a short one and beats (that as much is listened to in discs of modern progressive rock). I am going to comment out brief of each song. The disc opens with Dr gull 1, a cut dominated by the piano and the guitar e-bow, to which another santanera guitar is added, always with powerful under funk and a firm battery, that cause that everything works with an amazing facility. At the end of the subject a choir is listened to, between diabolic and angelical, that already prepares us for which it will be the rest of the disc, a trip through the music of I follow XX. This song takes step of continuous form (without separation between subjects) to Rationality, a cut also dominated by the sound of piano of the teclista, in which the low one usually harmonizes serious of the keyboard drawing up lines that arrive enough to be twisted. The guitar has a melódico paper in this subject, and the battery remembers a little to me in the style of Bruford, mainly in the central part. The Tango handle is a épico subject of more than 12 minutes, that go so fast as if they were 3. This subject has of everything, including a single virtuoso of accordion. To emphasize the intermediate flight in that they participate the keyboard (key sound), low and the electrical guitar. It has delicious, fine moments of melodía, all sensitivity, and other moments at which Senogul manages to irritate to the listener with its dissonances, always used of a wise and masterful way. The hermetic verbena begins with a gaita doing a fraseo characteristic of Asturian music, giving to passage to an eddy of guitars wah wah and single arabesque. .que takes step unexpected bossa Nova of desefrenado rate. To emphasize the zappiana part that it sounds in interludio, in which they take part on walking bass saxo, two guitars and one gralla Catalan. .curiosa this last addition, that for a moment makes me remember to the Catalan grandisimos “Electrical Companya Drama”. The end of this subject is pure musical humor… but that I leave it already so that it discovers the listener to it. The following subject, in spite of being called Microcosm blues, does not have anything of blues. .o if? , perhaps its ironic end. The subject is a species of crimsoniano development of riff sweeping. In its intermediate part they are possible to be listened to a gorgeous acoustic guitar, that serves as touching base to one flauta working in a very Eastern way, and multitude of percussions (between which I emphasize the mouth ARPA), that gives an air him to the selvático song, magical… that sometimes remembers me to some work of grandísimo Nana Vasconcelos. This subject includes a part reagge, and some passage near psicodelia, that it demonstrates the good that dominate to the guitarists their equipment multieffects. In summary, a subject with several states of humor, between calmed candies and, and deeply irritated. The Dr Gull II is a new exhibition of the subject that opens the disc, with a precious end, brightened up by indescriptibles special effects, that according to I can read in the libreto have become of manual way (without electronic equipment). The subject Drops of crystal in your rain glass takes to a melódico, romantic, symphonic Senogul and jazzy to us (specially by the great work of the bear). A subject to enjoy. The game between the guitar and the piano is of prettiest than I listened in long time. The Maha Vishnuda, I imagine that band of fusion of the 70 will be a game of words in honor to grandísima. In certain way, this subject remembers me to the subject that opens the disc “to inner mounting flame” of Mahavishnu Orchestra, and perhaps also to “birds of FIRE”. I say this of the sort of the guitar, that is creating a arpegiada base that superficially stays throughout almost all the subject, soleando the other guitar, leaving the tone and returning again, giving to him to a wild feeling… all it with great elegance. It is to also emphasize small single introductorio of low and voice, a resource very used at the time of the 70, and that without a doubt enjoys great possibilities. This subject derives to one more a ritual part, than it could remember me to good discs of Magma, ending at a part but Weather Report. In any case, although I mention many bands, Senogul has an own identity very hard. Water fire and porexpan (I title already is charismatic) begins with a species of Acid jazz, to the James Taylor Quartet, who takes step to fragments of everything tipo…rock, blues, jazz, funk. To emphasize in this subject the enormous weight of the bear (who also opens to the subject with single wah wah), and the work of the metal section. The duels of guitar and keyboard of the part blues are incredible. The rythmical guitar has great shades here. Without a doubt this it is a subject that there is to often listen to catch all the details. The here skillful battery, the battery adjustments are very imaginative. The passage of the gulls is a short temita of santanera fusion, very pleasant, without badness no, a good rest before the final traca. In the electrical mulata some of the best resources of these musicians, with single of guitar, low, piruetas baterísticas and an exciting work of keyboards, that remember to me as much by their loudness, as by the own title to Iceberg come together. The single one of under the central part of the subject is a last one. In Dr Gull III this disc is closed, retaking the subject exposed already in the other Dr Gull, although with an air that oscillate between the folkloric thing and the tenebrous thing. A finishing touch, for a magnificent disc. Without a doubt I believe that this disc could be between 10 greater of the progressive Spanish, next to Iceberg, Magnet, Guadalquivir, Tree-lined avenue, Crack, Gotic, Dharma….time to the time, I believe that a classic one has been born

Very close to Portuguese (we all can read each other with little difficulty) but in fact I'm able to speak the language on a day-to-day basis. Smile

Great job Darqdean Thumbs%20Up, did you use Bablefish? I own their debut CD entitled Transitos, most of the songs on that album are now on the new album in renewed versions but reading your translation I miss something about my absolute highlight La Mulata Electrica, Prog Andaluz at its best! I am very curious about this and will ask the band for more information.

Was just kidding... I have distant relatives (through marriage) in Brazil (in Rio and Sao Paolo) and all speak quite good Spanish so I reckoned you must do as well. They also speak good French (and have a better accent than some other Francophile friends of mine...).

It happened 'cause the original review is well-written, Dean... if you want to clean it up, feel free (we did it for other reviews in other languages that appeared here). Star
