Choose your favorite period/incarnation of the Master Chameleon: David Bowie.  You can choose more than one if it's a toss up for you.

Thanks for not forgetting the Anthony Newley period!  This period went back to the days when Bowie was known by his birth name (changed for several  reason, one so as  not to be confused with the Monkee with the same name). Why Anthony Newley (co-composer of Stop The World I Want To Get Off - and other musicals with Leslie Bricus (sp?): the same vocal intonations as heard on Newley's handful of early 60's hits, e.g. Strawberry Fair

Some of the music from the Newley period actually isn't bad at all.  "The Laughing Gnome," "London Boys," "Love You Till Tuesday," and "Please Mr. Gravedigger" are all well written and performed songs.  The carnival feel to the music is an artistic choice that seems to work for these songs.

I didn't hear everything he released, but I was amazed with Outside and Earthling.  How he reinvented himself yet again on those two albums... and with such good results.
 
I'd go as far as saying that Outside is my favorite Bowie album.

Even if I'm not so much into his 1980s dance period, David Bowie is really a... Scary Monster to me (ok, this statement should be moved into the "bad jokes" thread). I decided for the "bohemian" period just because of some songs I feel as fundamental for my music formation. But it's really difficult to leave out "Heroes", "Ashes to Ashes", "Oxford Town" and many, many others...

I voted The Ziggy Period, followed by The Bohemian Period, followed by The Reflective Period.
I was surprised at how good "Reality" was.

I chose the Berlin Trilogy, but every from the Bohemian period through Transition 2 is awesome. Outside is a great album too.

Vote for all three periods, Snow Dog.  Such conundrums was why I left the poll open for multiple choices.  Smile
 
BTW, I am very pleasantly surprised to see a couple of votes for his most recent period.  I especially enjoy hours....  After its release, it quickly became one of my favorite Bowie albums.

My favorites are Space Oddity, Hunky Dory and Alladin Sane.  So the Bohemian Period it is since two of my favs are from then.

I reckon it is really cool that the "Berlin Trilogy" actually includes 4 official LP releases.  That has to get my vote, if only for the arithmetic.  LOL

Te Berlin trilogy for me. I love all of Bowies career with his best record being Hunky Dory. Having said that my preference is the Berlin Trilogy ' Lodger' is a poor album IMO. Only a couple of good songs on it. Heroes & Low make up for it. Two outstanding records that sound as fresh now as they did back then.

My favourite Bowie album is Hunky Dory although, from the above categories, I prefer the Ziggy incarnation.

 Didn't vote -- I'd rather blend parts of two of your periods together, into one I'll call the "Mick Ronson on guitar" period: Man who Sold the World, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane. Smile
 
Second favourite era: Berlin/Eno.
 
I like tons of Bowie, though. I'm a major fan.
 
I think his too-pop "Let's Dance" era was his weakest (still pretty good, though), and I really don't care for Outside, though "Heart's Filthy Lesson" and "I Have Not Been to Oxford Town" are fine tracks.
 
I'm delighted that the old guy's still got it -- the last two albums were very worthy additions to his catalog.Thumbs%20Up

I was focusing on Bowie's "incarnations," his personas, so to speak.  I could have gone by Guitarists: The Mick Ronson Period, The Carlos Alomar Period, The Stevie Ray Period (REAL short... lol), Earl Slick, Reeves Gabriel, Fripp/Belew.....  That might make another great poll.
