First of all, I am posting this thread here because I do consider the music of Hector Zazou very progressive. If the moderation doesn't share the same opinion, though, feel free to move the thread to the non-prog forum. This French composer (born in Argelia) makes some of the most interesting music I know. A mix of "music-from-everywhere" with rock, classical, electronic... And the list of guests in his discs is pretty amazing: Lisa Gerrard, Brendan Perry, David Sylvian, Barbara Gogan, Björk, Suzanne Vega, John Cale, Caroline Lavelle, Jon Hassell, among other greats. Some of my favorite albums: - Songs from the Cold Seas MySpace of the artist: http://www.myspace.com/hectorzazou I do love his music!!! Not to mention that the audio quality of his recordings is usually superb!!! So, who else over here into the strange & wonderful music of Hector Zazou? Demetrio. |

I have "Songs from the Cold Seas", and highly recommend it. Lots of great guests. There is a distortion problem on 1 or 2 tracks; I went to great lengths trying to find a copy without the distortion (it's been released on more than one label, but all copies appear to have the same problems in the same spots).

It's not about the moderators view of the artist Progger. The Prog music lounge is for bands and artists listed on the site.

I only have Songs From The Cold Seas, which I like a lot! The song Visur Vatnnsenda Rosu (if I remember the title well) is in my top 10 of songs by any band / artist, maybe even in my top 5. Too bad Hector's not more well known.

Support all what is said above on the basis of Sahara Blue and Songs From The Cold Seas. Apparently Robert Fripp has worked with him recently.

I like Sahara Blue and Songs from the Cold Seas, but I'm also a big fan of his late 70s work with ZNR - basically duo consisting of himself and pianist Joseph Racaille plus assorted guests. Very Satie-esque with a twist of RIO and very eccentric, they released two albums, Barricades 3 and Traite de Mecanique Populaire. I'll add them to the archives if I can ever find a photo and some biographical info.
