has been done a lot of times, but let's go along with it:

drums: Mani Neumeier (don't choose Moerlen for this, because Hattler and Neumeier have played together many times)
bass: Helmut Hattler
guitar: Roman Bunka
keyboards: Alan Gowen
vocals: Peter Hammill

lets add some other instruments:
flute: Didier Malherbe
violin: Eddie Jobson

I don't think puting my favorites together would work well so I'll try to pick complimentary players even if they are not the most admired. Baldjean I dont recognize any name there except Peter Hammill and I don't know his work at all.  ItWould no doubt be very surprising to me to hear such a band. I think i'll Jazz it up a bit.

Drums: Billy Cobham
Guitar: Jukka Tollenon for the softer passages and Tommy Bolin For the louder parts.
Keys: Chick Corea
BAss: Yeah.. Jaco of course.
Vocals: Im with Jeff Beck, the human voice is the most unmusical thing...

Guitar: Andy Summers (The Police)
Bass/Chapman stick: Tony Levin (King Crimson)
Drums: Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa) or Bill Bruford (Yes)
Keys (mostly mellotron and synths): Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree)
Soundscapes: Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree)

That would probably kick ass.

Just to show where the musicians I named played:
Mani Neumeier of Guru Guru
Helmut Hattler of Kraan, Guru Guru and Tab Two
Roman Bunka of Embryo and solo albums. he is not in the archive as a solo artist yet, by the way; a big oversight. his first solo album "Dein Kopf ist ein schlafendes Auto" is one of the best albums ever made and in my personal top 10.
Alan Gowen of Gilgamesh, Soft Heap and Soft Head
Didier Malherbe of Gong, Mother Gong, Hadouk and solo work
Eddie Jobson of Curved Air, King Crimson, UK, Roxy Music, Jethro Tull

Interesting that I still don't recognize much :) I have a kraan album as well as KC and JT of course. Heard of Gong, curved air and roxy music. But that's it.  Well, new names to add to my search :) thanks.

i'll take any two Vanders of your choice, a Top, a Blasquiz and then mix in a Hancock and a Fripp, and perhaps a Tatsuya for the stereo drums. that would be the coolest Kommandkestra ever assembled. ;)
