Couldn't the non-collaborators have biographies as well if they want to?

Seeing as everyone on the forum has their own page now, why shouldn't we be able to include biography information as well? This would help people to learn more about the forum members if they wish to.

Maybe you would like to have more space in that page to put in information?

OR ? .................

If I understand right (or notWink), you are talking of the reviewer's profiles in the collab page in the database.... Theoretically , they are reserved for those who write up reviews and have been accepted as prog reviewers . If you wish to become one because you have been writing reviews (and not just on albums that have over 50 reviews and more), you can make application to Tony R or Trotsky

Well, the way I see it, the biographies was ment for the profile page of exclusive PRs or SCs. Now that the profile page has become a general thing (something I applaud,by the way), the unique special character of a biography isn't relevant anymore.

So why shouldn't we have biographies for "reviewers"? Then again, why should we?

Strange thing,I don't know where I stand regarding this,to be honest.

PS.:Just out of subject,I still cannot write my biography, though I'm a PR and I have complain about it several months again...there is a glitch. When is it gonna be fixed. GeekCry

It is a sensible proposal Bob.

Some background information to explain why it was not put in place when the recent changes were made.

Appointing members as prog reviewers and special collaborators is seen as a way of rewarding the sites most committed members. The benefits they get are:
  • Their reviews are given priority in terms of listing*
  • They can edit their reviews
  • They have an exclusive area of the forum for discussions
  • They have the ability ot submit a prog biography of themselves
  • They get 5 stars!

*At present, the priority listing of reviews is not in place, although this will be restored soon.

It is the second point though which is the main reason the biographies facility has not been extended. PRs and SCs can also edit their biographies. We are reluctant to extend the edit facility for reviews beyond the PRs and SCs as policing the reviews is already a laborious job. Without policing, we run the risk of trolls and spoilers posting acceptable reviews, then editing them later.

I do like the idea of all members being able to post a biography, but they would need to checked to ensure they were appropriate. I'll make sure this is disucssed by the Admin team and M@x.

As a compromise in the meanwhile, how would members feel about an area of the forum for telling us about yourself?

Finally, we are of course always looking for people to become PRs and SCs (SC's help with the running of the site in some way). See the FAQs thread for more info.

In the profile, there are editable sections for "occupation" and "interests" where people can put whatever they like so there shouldn't be a problem to extend this to biographies should there?

I think the space in this profile could be maximized to allow for everyone to tell a bit more about themselves!

Mostly more space in the occupations and interest >>> I could not even have enough character to fully explain my job title (outside being a complete nuisance that isLOL)

Don't you get 5 stars for working at McDonalds if you can last until the end of the week?

Bob,

I think this is a great idea. Bios would be especially useful things for those people who write reviews but don't have a PR/SC label, since it would help the rest of us to understand that person, and would better enable us all to put context to their reviews. The only alternative now is to read that person's forum posts and form an opinion that way.

Forum threads are of course a highly scientific and accurate guage for measuring a person's character, competence, and judgment , but personal bios for everyone would be the next best thing.
