Does anyone know of any Prog. Convention in the states?

If not, there should be one. It would be like one of those comic book or star
wars conventions. Except, with Prog and it would be awesome. It could
have tons of life music and prog artists, collectibles, and more prog!

Well, several members from England met up in London awhile ago for discussion/drinking/beating up Tony R. () and there was recently another metting in The Hague for a few Euros, but it would be hard to do a wide-scale convention, methinks.

I wanted to go, some awesome bands (Hatfield and the North, Riverside, Ozric Tentacles and several others) are performing this year.  Sadly, I don't have a car yet and my parents weren't too thrilled of the idea (I'm fairly close to where it's being held in BEthlehem, Pa)

Most of what was mentioned are prog festivals(at least first and foremost). The two I have been to Progday and Nearfest are very good. Nearfest is indoors so it has much more of a traditional convention vibe. I guess the convention aspects are in the the fact that they have guests such as Roger Dean(and other artists at times), vendors selling prog art work, cds, magazines(progression and expose at least), and probably various other prog related things. Nearfest is the closest to a convention I'm aware of and with the rooms it could be considered a convention but it's first and foremost a festival. I was at a Yes convention back in 1987 which was cool but a prog convention in the traditional sense(with a proper concert and just held in a hotel room)hasn't happened yet as far as I know.

You are correct Prog Traveller, however these festivals still are the best place to mingle with other prog types, meet with vendors, meet-n-greet other prog bands, talk shop, trade CD's, and generally support the genre.  There is no question though, that these are prog concerts first-and-foremost.
