BIO

John Hackett is a British flute player, born 13 March 1955, the younger brother of Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. He also plays guitar, bass, bass pedals and keyboards. He started performing and recording with his brother, and making guest contributions to some Genesis related albums, such as Anthony Phillips's The Geese and the Ghost.
On the classical side, he played with The English Flute Quartet and the Westminster Camerata.
Since 2004, John focused on releasing solo albums. In 2005, Checking Out of London was a neo-progressive album co-produced with Nick Magnus, and with the lyrical contribution of Nick Clabburn. This was followed by a sophomore effort in the same style, Another Life (2015), with the aforementioned collaborators, and his brother Steve contributing guitar.
Supporting the release of Another Life, a band was formed with John (guitars, keys, vocals), Nick Fletcher (lead guitar), Duncan Parsons (drums, percussion, vocals) and Jeremy Richardson (bass, guitars, vocals).
They started to perform as the John Hackett Band in 2016, being their live debut album We Are Not Alone released in 2017, followed by their first studio effort Beyond The Stars (2019), credited now to both John hackett and Nick Fletcher.

^ See my reply to your post in the Nick Fletcher solo suggestion thread here. I'm hoping we will be able to convert the existing John Hackett & Nick Fletcher page into John Hackett solo once Nick Fletcher has his own solo page here. You can rest assured that one way or another John Hackett will be evaluated as a solo artist if another evaluation is actually considered to be necessary following the one that was carried out in 2021 for the 'Beyond the Stars' album that he did in collaboration with Nick Fletcher.

We're very close now to getting Nick Fletcher cleared as a solo artist in JR/F (we just need it confirming on Awesome Prog really, since all the definitive votes from the currently active team members have now been cast). John Hackett is therefore now under formal evaluation as a solo artist in Crossover, just to dot the i's and cross the t's, and hopefully both he and Nick will soon have their respective solo pages on PA. Smile

John Hackett added to crossover (replacing the previous John Hackett & Nick Fletcher collaboration page as previously discussed).

Just a couple of months short of the 20th anniversary of the release of 'Checking Out of London', he's finally here!

It's surprising really that until Eduardo picked up the baton and suggested him in this thread, nobody else has ever bothered (including myself lol!, though I've certainly thought about it a few times). Someone asked in October 2017 why he wasn't here, and although there was very little interest shown in the topic, I think it was decided by the few that did post a reply that he should be here.

Even this suggestion has only really arisen as a spin-off from the Nick Fletcher saga that was only recently resolved after more than a year of gathering dust on the shelf, so it seems that there's currently very little love indeed for JH to be found in the wider PA community. Let's hope his albums eventually get one or two decent reviews.

Anyway, I too am personally glad that this glaring omission from PA has now finally been put right. Smile

Next Thursday seems to be his birthday, so, this happens in good time!
