Missing Ink is a progressive rock band from Albenga, Savona, in the Italian Riviera whose origins go back to 2015, when some friends with a common passion for music began playing together following their experiences in various other projects, and eventually decided to create their own band. The line-up currently comprises Gloria BERRA (lead vocals), Antonio CAPEZIO (bass and backing vocals), Elia COLNAGHI (guitars and backing vocals), Gabriele SBARRA (drums) and Diego SGARLATO (keyboards and backing vocals).

Detailed band history:

In 2015 keyboardist Diego SGARLATO, guitarist Elia COLNAGHI and bassist Massimiliano TURCO decided to create a band out of the ashes of previous projects they had shared with the aim of writing some original material - having previously only played covers. They recruited the singer Gloria BERRA and the drummer Federico GIUNTOLI to complete the initial line-up, but Federico soon found work and moved to the UK, with Nicola VIOLA taking his place on drums. This was the line-up until April 2018, when bassist Massimiliano TURCO also left the band due to work commitments to be replaced by Antonio "Tony" CAPEZIO.

Nicola VIOLA then left in 2019 to focus on his studies as a drummer, as he had by then begun turning his attention towards other genres of music. He was replaced on drums by Gabriele SBARRA, but in the spring of 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions prevented the band from performing live, or even working together in the same studio. Up until that time they had been writing their original songs quite slowly because their live performances had been so popular that they focused more on playing and rehearsing covers than composing original material.

However, when they couldn’t play live anymore they re-focussed their attention on writing more original songs, and since they couldn’t be together in the studio, they shared their ideas via computers and smartphones. This situation gave the band members a sense of inner strength and optimism, and the first song they wrote in this way during the pandemic lockdown was called 'We Will Rise'.

They continued working on the material that would eventually form the album 'Undrawn' thanks to the help of their bassist Antonio "Tony" CAPEZIO, who was studying sound engineering at the time, and used one of their new songs, 'Prophets of Sarax', as part of his 3rd year masters degree at the GF Ghedini Conservatory in Cuneo in 2021.

Then, during his holiday in Dublin in 2022, keyboardist Diego SGARLATO visited the Windmill recording studio where the tour guide introduced him to the renowned mastering engineer Fergal DAVIS. By then the actual recording of the 'Undrawn' album was already finished, and the band sent it to Fergal for the final mastering.

The band's compositions have been well-received over several years in various contests and at festivals, leading to them winning several prizes and gaining more general recognition. They have toured extensively, presenting a well-tested live show in which they combine their own original material with rock classics from the 70s, 80s and 90s - as well as some current popular songs - performing between 30 and 50 dates per year.

Their debut album 'Undrawn' was released via MaRaCash Records on 29th September 2023, with a single from it called 'Changing World' being released on their YouTube channel prior to that in mid-August.

The bulk of the album was recorded at Massimiliano ZINO's 'Magazzino del Service' in Savona, with the vocals and final touches to the guitars and keyboards being added at the studio of the YEPP Youth Aggregation Centre in Albenga. The recording and initial mastering was done by bassist Antonio CAPEZIO, while the final mastering was entrusted to Fergal DAVIS (MUSE, SINEAD O'CONNOR, BEN FOLDS AND THE DIVINE COMEDY), who completed the work at his studios in Dublin, Ireland.

The band's sound is essentially heavy progressive rock, but infused with occasional hints of the melodic AOR/hard rock sounds of the '80s interspersed with some more languid, reflective interludes. The cover art of the album was created by Milanese graphic designers Valentina CRISTALLI and Antonio SANTORO, and the lyrics often use surreal, fairy-tale, science fiction or fantasy scenarios to describe important aspects of everyday life.

2. Prophets Of Sarax (4:51)
3. Duality (4:57)

Yes I think it's a bit too heavy for you. I will take this to the team.
