I tried to search for a thread about the lyrics to "Blinded by the light" but I keep getting an SQL timeout error-
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e31' Timeout expired
/forum/search.asp, line 356 It should be possible to increase the timeout value. |

Thanks for the suggestion Mike, but I was only searching in one category at the time. |

^ as far as I know, the timeout is caused when the result is too big. So either the timeout value is increased (which M@x presumably won't do) or you have to use more words in the search and make it return threads which contain ALL of the words.

I'm not technically gifted, but I think the time out is more to do with the amount of data the search is having to trawl through, due to the number of posts and threads now on the forum. The error only seems to appear when you try to search on the "body text" which looks at every word in every post in every thread.

^ the funny thing is that I've used that search many times (all threads, message bodies) and got no timeout. I don't know if it was pure coincidence, but I got the impression that it really depends on what you're searching for - it seems to take the longer the more results it finds.

It has happened to me a few times, but if I wait and then try a bit later there's usually no problem.
