You're probably thinking, "you only want one song?", and "why no criteria", but there is a reason I want this type of suggestion. First, I would prefer one song per person. I don't have time to listen to full albums, and I also want the best of the best in music (compared to an album with great and sub average music), i.e. high quality the whole duration; thus I want your top song suggestions. Second, I don't really care if the song is prog or not, I just like good music that isn't well-known. So why not have no criteria? The only amendment to the title of this topic is I would prefer lesser known, underrated songs to the famous classics that always get mentioned on this website.

Not so good album, but great song: "Burundi Drummer's Nightmare" from "Meetings with Men-Machines: Unremarkable Heroes of the Past" by the British branch of Amon Düül. Great vocals and guitar; really a nightmare. The song starts at 28:45.

I think you're doing yourself a disfavour by not listening to full albums but to give you what you're asking for:

Franco Battiato - Aries
"Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar."

I definitely have to recommend Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm by 311, it's sort of "prog-lite" but quite catchy and accessible. Give it a listen!
