Questions about prog masterpiece Spectrum
Who
Who composed the band (not drum alone) tracks on this LP?
How
If Cobham, any collaberation?

Were they written on piano beforehand

How do we know this was the process?

Thanks for inside info!

Jazz fusion masterpiece. Wink

For the recording Cobham gathered a quartet including Moog synth virtuoso Jan Hammer, session-bassist Lee Sklar and the late Tommy Bolin on guitar. For two other cuts he called on more established jazz masters, double-bass genius Ron Carter, conga player Ray Barretto, trumpeter Jimmy Owens and Joe Farrell on soprano sax.

The group recorded for three weeks and experimented with all kinds of new technology. Some of the ensuing electronica sounds primal, but is more fun than techno.

The personnel on all selections except "Spectrum" & "Le Lis" is:
Billy Cobham, percussion; Tommy Bolin, guitar; Jan Hammer, electric piano, acoustic piano & Moog Synthesizer; Lee Sklar, Fender Bass.

The personnel on "Spectrum" & "Le Lis" is:
Billy Cobham, percussion; Joe Farrell, flute & soprano sax on "Spectrum" and alto sax on "Le Lis"; Jimmy Owens, flugelhorn on "Spectrum" & flugelhorn & trumpet on "Le Lis"; John Tropea, guitar on "Le Lis"; Jan Hammer, electric piano & Moog Synthesizer; Ron Carter, acoustic bass; Ray Barretto, congas.
