Topic: Best Prog Magazines/Fanzines Posted: June 06 2016 at 10:56 |
I'm curious what experienced members of this site consider the "best" prog-oriented magazines or fanzines, either in print or online? As I'm in the U.S., I'm most interested in English-language pubs, but would be interested in discovering international sources online that could be run through Google translate (as dreadfully inaccurate as it is). The only two magazines that come to mind for me are Prog (monthly) and Progression (quarterly). The former strikes me as the slickest, most mainstream title on the market while the latter comes closer to the prog equivalent of the punk-oriented Maximum Rock 'n' Roll (given the plethora of reviews), but with much better production values. Any other pubs of note, especially underground/fanzine options?

Those are the only two I read......I pick up hard copies of Prog now and then at the local bookstore and look at Progression online now and then. Never have really bothered to look for any other zines.

I've read good articles on bands such as Genesis and Van der Graaf in Mojo, a magazine that is good at covering prog when it wants to.

I've been reading PROG (formerly "Classic Rock presents PROG") Magazine since Issue #2. Bought it religiously for the first 2 years or so. Now I get it when someone I like is on the cover (Yes, Genesis, ELP, etc). I just got the latest issue because E.L.O. is on the cover (excellent article btw, if you like them).
If you have a tablet, you can get it for $4.00/issue on your tablet (vs. $16.00 for the paper copy !). They cover a lot of bands, just like on here, but it's a nice adjunct to this site if you don't mind springing for the $$ !

Thanks for letting me know about the online option. $4 USD/issue is a great price!
