I have a love/hate relationship with Marillion. I hated their first two albums: Script For A Jester's Tear and most of Fugazi although it was better than Script. Misplaced Childhood and Clutching At Straws would be the two Fish-era recordings I return to most often. Of the Hogarth-era, Season's End and Brave remain my favorites. Those are the only two recordings I can stomach from Hogarth-era Marillion. I disliked Marbles and still don't see what the fuss is all about. Instrumental improvisations and intricate interplay between the band members are finding it's way out of Marillion which I think is unfortunate. Marillion at it's best can evoke strong emotions inside of me, but when they're at their worse, which seems to be predominantly with Hogarth (Holidays In Eden was a complete flop) they induce heavy vomiting reactions inside of me.

Blimey - heavy vomiting ![]() I regard Holidays in Eden as being the weakest of the h-era albums. Marbles is, to me, a work of genius, and you really should try both This Strange Engine & Radiation as examples of true progressive rock.

![]() When I say vomit inducing, I'm merely exaggerating. If Marillion actually caused me to do this, I would see a doctor ASAP. ![]() I own all of Marillion's recordings except for their latest recording: Happiness Is The Road. I should probably revisit many of their recordings as it's been years since I've listened to This Strange Engine or Radiation or even Afraid of Sunlight.

I've had a dislike/hate relationship with Marillion. I only had Fugazi and a greatest hits album untill today. I considered Fugazi barely listenable and the greatest hits album was horrid. But today I picked up Misplaced Childhood on vinyl for a buck. NOW I finally understand how some people can love Marillion. I still don't love them but now I have a like/dislike relationship with them. It's nice to finally be in on the secret.

Pete Trewavas and Eric Blackwood's Edison's Children has just hit #57 on the FMQB Top 200...
FMQB shows Commercial Radio Play in the United States. The song "A Million Miles Away (I Wish I Had A Time Machine)" was mixed by Robin Boult (Fish) and mastered in house at Marillion's Racket Records from their CD "In The Last Waking Moments..." The Psychedelic album features the first time that Marillion have all performed together on the same album outside of the "Marillion" name as special guests... Dee Expus' Andy Ditchfield also makes an appearance. This is the first time that a Prog Rock band has hit the "Pop Charts" in American Radio in years... and Edison's Children is getting the same amount of Hot A/C radio play as Katy Perry and Lady Gaga right now... for more information see http://www.edisonschildren.com. The CD is available from Marillion's Racket Records and Edison's Children the EP/Single from Edison's Children. It is also on CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon and many prog rock CD stores.

I really love everything these guys have done with a slightly bigger preference to the Fish era. In my opinion they are truly giants.

Sounds That Can't Be Made sounds more like a more appropriate avant-prog album title than it does a Marillion album title.

Funny how Mark just shook my hand with a sly grin and said, "Hey, Big Man." All of them were really cool, though. E Edited by E-Dub - July 28 2012 at 01:06 |

Steve, remember when we were walking back to the hotel after the second show in Chicago and I pointed at the place that was on Conan O'Brien. Here's the video. E |

Have really enjoyed Fish Era better but "The Space" just sends chills up my spine. Have to give "Marbles" another try. I bought it but it got lost...

Exciting times indeed! This is going to be something special, everything in that Youtube trailer sounds awesome!
http://www.towardinfinity.co.uk/news-detail.php?ID=28 It is from the maker's mouth but anyway... I sense that everything is very well in the Marillion camp! Mark: Today we are getting Sky Above the Rain together. We spent most of this week getting Gaza "tour ready" (all 18 mins of it) It rocks live! Prog Magazine: Marillion - Sounds That Can't Be Made - we are seriously loving this record!! |
